  2. I have been trying but it doesn't seem to be working.
  3. Was chipping a large thuja (this is a pain for any chipper), so perfect "test" to remove the grill (screen with 30mm holes) as with it the dispatch was clogging a lot. It helped to avoid the clogging most of the time, but the size of the chips did not increased significantly (there were larger chips, but not overall). Also this is not recommended so far as it may cause that large chunk of the wood gets into dispatch fan causing some damage. Chipper was not able to "consume" more than 3" of this kind of wood while previously chipping many apple tree branches was going up to 4" without issues. The funny thing that happen was, that after a few hours, the RPM started to show completely insane values and the no-stress obviously stopped working without correct RPMs, becoming a "stress" control (manually stopping and starting the feed). When I got back I found one grounding wire screw got loose, causing this strange behaviour.
  4. Morning all, Looking like a wet one here. Taking the day off to rest my (real not metal) knee. Hope all goes well Pete.
  5. Oh need to be careful of in house training as that can be a slippery slope also , ie what makes you a competent assesor/trainer .. get the same stuff with npors ,hence why cpcs works. I spose the closest thing to trees is getting the d90 ticket , for demolition, thats working with various attachments at hight .

  9. I've got similar, PC27R. Similar vintage. First thing I did was put on a hydraulic thumb. It's worked very well for me. Looking at an undercarriage refresh next summer.

  11. Any ideas where the bits are fabricated?
  12. I don't think 1200 high would be too difficult to empty - I'd just stand on a small ladder or undo the mesh join. Of course a shorter height would be easier, but I'm trying to maximise the amount of wood I place on each pallet (and balance that out with ease of access).
  13. Got an old Tanaka ECS 3351b (33cc) and the primer/purge bulb gets a lot of air coming in from somewhere. Replaced all the tubes with new clear ones and the tube going from the carb to the bulb gets a lot of bubbles going through and hardly any petrol. The saw runs but not as well as it should (though that might be a tuning issue). I've recently cleaned the carb and put new gaskets and diagrams etc, and all the screws are done up tight. I even swapped the carb with the one in my spare saw - and that was even worse. The primer bulb is new and tested ok. Any ideas?
  14. Of course! With the price of hardwood logs my way just for firewood being a minimum of £120 a ton and sawlogs well over £150 a ton being the primary factor. We have a large firewood producer local to me who produces about 300m3 of hardwood logs a week and kiln dried them in a few days. Plus he gets a chipper in to do the rest, I think the chipper takes 800mm diameter, its a beast. On a personal level my Mill can only handle logs at 750mm diameter and thats if its poker straight. Poker straight being a premium. Id also have to hire the Estates Avant for the days I'm milling the logs plus all my other associated coats. Id have to buy in 10t of Beech at a minimum. Even if the delivery was free thats £1500 up front cost just for the logs, then all the other costs and my time on top. Thats why I made that comment. By the way, that set of Oak Bowls you made me are still going strong.
  15. @Muddy42 well ,to each his own 😁 But let's face it: that wood has been outside all its life. I like to give it "a home" for its final time on this world 🙄 I would force dry it but summers here are hot enough AND lately dry As in no rain for weeks and no humidity in air... Now when I see/encounter fog I marvel at it ... Nevermind rain. Even in winter air is so dry that skin cracks, especially lips/face... If a blizzard catches you outside for too long you will have cracked skin or worse if ut's minus 10-15 Celcius... This is one reason I use tons of wood briquettes: I know for sure they're dry under 15% and I don't have to cut "slices" from a log with the chainsaw or split it. Just grab a cutter ,a 10 kg bag, slice it open and just cut wood briquettes in 6-10 cm long pieces. They even light easy . I couldn't ask for more.. Of course I use wood for the good bed of coals it creates and helps burn the briquettes. Price is also a reason: there isn't anything ready to burn cheaper than wood briquettes. Plus the company I buy from delivers it to your home. Driver has hydraulic lift on the truck AND electric lifter that can take a 960kg pallet anywhere you want. With wood logs is nowhere near as easy. A lot more work to be honest. But I prefer wood logs straight from the forest because I know the man selling it for years. Not once he tried to "screw me" . Got to love the guy 😁 And the logs are rott free, hardwood . There are other options too. Before the war in Ukraine you could buy a 40 ton truck full of oak "residue" small parts from wood factories from Ukraine. Almost ready to put in the stove. All legal, but this was the only condition: they sold only in a 40 ton truck. And you must have the space to store that much firewood. From memory I think one truck had 30 cubic meters of oak in small 10-20x10-15 cm pieces and 5 cm thick. Almost perfect for fire in a ceramic tile stove! That it's all gone/destroyed today... That's how I got to wood briquettes. Almost the same thing, even easier to handle and cut in small pieces(with a knife...). This could be a solution for those who want really dry firewood: a 40 ton truck every 2 years, dry it all in oven type drier and life is good and warm 😎 For lazy people there's always natural gas or fuel heating oil.

Due to heart surgery I am selling my milling equipment that I did as a hobby as I won’t be working with that size of timber again. I have a LOGOSOL F1 chainsaw mill ( Farmer’s Mill ). It has 4 x 1 metre sections. The photos show it with 3 sections built plus the 4th lying on the cradle arms. Very good condition as only used occasionally for projects for myself. It has saw guide, bar guard, depth gauge , 4 log clamps and user manual all included. Alaskan Mill is ecomill from Chainsawbars. It is the 36 inch mill along with 2 x 7 feet first cut rails. ( giving 14ft length using the connectors). 28 inch and 25 inch GB Arbtech low pro milling bars. 3 x New Panther 25 inch low pro ripping chains. 5 x Used Stihl 28 inch low pro ripping chains. 92 cc Newtop chainsaw fitted for milling. This is a Chinese chainsaw based on the Stihl 066 or the MS660. It was bought from Chainsawbars and it has worked very well any time I have used it. Very powerful. It has also included in sale a brand new, unused spare cylinder and piston kit, air filters, sprocket, clutch drum and chain tensioner kit along with the saw. Oregon Felling Lever/cant hook. 24. My brother is looking to get into the industry if anyone needs a hard worker in and around London this week.
  25. Hi Everyone, I'm a self-employed groundman looking to get into climbing as soon as I have the funds to put myself through the CS38 & 39 tickets. I currently have my CS30 & 31 and have around 7 months of experience as a groundie. I'm based in the Swindon area and mostly work subcontracting to a few different companies as and when they need an extra pair of hands. My diary is mostly quite full, but I could always do with the extra day or two every now and then. I'm open to a conversation around full-time positions if it was right for me, but I would prefer to remain self-employed at this point in time. If you're looking for someone who can slot in and help out when needed, I'm hard-working, have my own vehicle & PPE - and I'm always happy to take logs away if needed too. I'm open to whatever kind of work you might have be it arb or forestry work, all of my experience so far has been domestic. Drop me a text or give me a call, 07906 310967
  26. I have little interest in the device itself, but I am interested in the marketing and how, or how it doesn’t gain traction with the small niche community that is tree climbers. You have to admire these companies that spend years doing R&D on these things for not much return except the prestige of manufacturing the “go to” My young trainee climber is reasonably interested and excited, he uses my ZZ plus when he uses a device. If he can be persuaded to part with his hard earned in the coming months, they’ve done well.
