  2. Mornin Stubs et al. Bit of snow on the ground, easy fallen oak to do, should be done by lunchtime. 4 and a half hours up the tree yesterday, so a bit knackered. Do you ever look back on a job and think “how did I manage to do that?” Starting a bit later as we’re local, so watching The Ashes, which isn’t going well!

  4. Someone I used to work with bought a plot of woodland a couple of years ago and every weekend he has to repair his fences in two or more places . Not only do they come in they deliberately destroy his fences to make it easier for them . He recently had a court case where a woman complained to the police that he had threatened her then attacked her whereas in reality he had asked her not to trespass on his land . I'm not sure of the outcome but it was extra hassle he did not want . I might see him next Monday and I will ask him .
  5. Too late but I think you need to swap the head for the smaller, lighter jobs. Look into a PolyCut head or a DuroCut head if they make one for your brand of strimmer.

  7. Nice setting but it wont be so warm 30ft up that tree ??

  9. Got a couple of days in milling scots pine with a view to getting a drying shed up, very pleased with the mill
  10. Agreed Had the same machine for a while now, done a few mods, welded up a couple of tables either side of the main beam to stack a few pieces on, converted to single handed operation. I’ve a 14hp B&S unit and two stage pump from an old hydraulic pack that I’m tempted to fit to try increasing ram speed but in reality that single handed spool valve I fitted saves so much time and in some respects steady is safe. Tows fine I’ve found as long as you don’t hit the motorway and stay sensible.
  11. Honeys and Gustharts are excellent, but I use Skyland whenever possible. Great visibility of stock levels, and very often next day delivery. I ordered 2 pairs of Pfanner ice grip gloves this afternoon after having cold hands this morning, and they will be here 9.30-12.30 tomorrow.
  12. Thought as much, this is replanting a new woodland after clear felling ash plantations. Might go in at over double and see if it comes off. What do you reckon a man should aim to put in in a day with that set up? Am I wrong in thinking even 200 whips with tall guard, stake and zip tie is even quite a lot?
  13. There's a facebook group called forst issues and faults with a lot of memebers if you need further advice
  14. Evening all, I'm looking at a change in occupation, though I'm currently employed the desk job is killing me and I crave the outdoors. I've been busying myself on my work holidays undertaking my CS30/31/38 - but not 39 yet (there's some logistical complications having done my initial 30/31 actually as the ICC1/2 course rather than with lantra before I found out the 2 similar course providers though practically identical aren't recognised by each other....). In my spare time I've really enjoyed and been climbing, pruning and felling for friends and neighbours (mostly farmers who are happy to get odd jobs done for free/for wood). 2026 brings another 6-8 weeks of holidays and I'll happily take them early on getting some experience helping out a local firm preferably around Cumbria. So if any one wants a free groundsman, or climber with his own kit for a few weeks here or there, in return I can get some experience of what doing tree work for a living looks like rather than for fun before I finally take the plunge and make the switch full time please get in touch.

  16. Available to climb for you next Wednesday. Message me for further details.
  17. Anyone got an Evoque or other Land-rover product that has suspension position sensors? The missus' Evoque had a new wishbone fitted and the drop link to the sensor was bust. I got a new sensor but the drop link seems to be in need of adjustment (cheap kin imported shite) but the fixing the the wishbone is lost! Does it just press fit over a stud or is there a bush or just a bolt? What size thread in to the wishbone? M5, M6, M8?
  18. Hello All, Has anyone used or have any views on site doc for the arb industry? Any feedback would be appreciated.
  19. I was spied on by Xi. This is China's end game for the UK APPLE.NEWS We need to establish red lines to defend our nation against threats to its security 🤷‍♂️ Interesting article. Don’t read too much into the Shrug, Talking of China when are you guys heading off on your save the world climate trip, get them Chinese and Indians told @sime42
  20. A nearby farmer purchased a teleporter and had the bag lifter for sale, they used to have a drill or spreader mounted on the lifter, I looked at it and thought it was ideal to mount my winch, it worked out really well, the lifter will extend another meter and a half and I have a set of tongs to fit on the end, or I can run the winch cable through a pulley attached to the lifter in place of the hook and use it like a skidder, it has proved itself a very versatile combination.

  22. I see the children responded, so will post again on topic.
  23. Rob to the rescue again! The man’s knowledge of bar/chain/sprocket combos is unmatched. He has come a long way from the fresh-faced youth I met at an arb show a couple of decades ago! Hope you’re well mate!
  24. I think it’s as soon as possible from what he said. I know nothing of this subject, but he’s told me it’s 63m and needs 4 binders on each run? If you could let me know an idea on price I can pass that on. The location is Lugwardine near Hereford. Thanks.
  25. Had the Echo Pole Pruner something like a PT2400 a few years ago with the extra 1.5m (?) extension - huge reach but a bit unwieldy. Machine is long gone but I still have the extension in our unit somewhere if anyone would be interested at £75.00 ?
  26. Boneless shoulder (on offer in Asda), dauphinoise potatoes and beans from mothers garden! Nice....
