  6. Last time I had to send my licence in, I took photos etc to make sure they didn’t rescind my permission to drive a traction engine or submarine or whatever. To my surprise, it instead came back with the updated B+E. They must know I’m out there, hard at work turning the wheels of the economy.

Valtra Valmet 6350 Igland 60 Winch (used for 1 job) Quickie Loader with Grab and Bucket Owned by myself for a few years now being used for winching and yard work. No longer working in the industry so time to sell. Grab has seen next to no use along with the Winch. Bucket is well used. Mud flap missing Front mesh grill has seen better days but I never changed it due to use in the woods just incase. Great tractor, starts instantly and no smoke. I will have it looked over again before sale to make sure all is ok and pass mechanic details onto the potential buyer.

  10. That was quick! Ordered Sunday from Amazon Japan. Should make the long reach hedger feel about 500g- 1.1kg lighter depending what size battery I use.
  11. Having worked with big cats in the past, I always found it interesting, and uncovered a few scenarios when looking into the various sightings and rumors. I don't suppose you could point me in the direction of any previous discussions on here, I did look but nothing came up.
  12. I’m hoping someone can identify this magnolia which I bought as a bare root plant in 2006 and thought was going to be a small tree but it is now 20’ high and growing. Every magnolia it looks like seems destined to be a 60’ one… I took off the spreading branches last autumn hence the unnatural oval shape; it was reaching out wide towards my boundaries before. It flowers twice p.a. in April and summer - it’s just starting to bud up again now. It’s in the middle of my lawn 20’ /6.1 m from my house and maybe 24’ away from the opposite terraced houses. I’d like to keep it but I’m worried it may cause issues for me or my neighbours with wide spreading surface roots? I’m in Hailsham, East Sussex, on clay soil and the soakaway for my waterbutt is below it somewhere so no wonder it’s happy! Any idea how big it’s going to get?…!! And can I stop it getting any bigger by repeated pruning or should I get it taken down completely? I love it and my other trees but they are enclosing my garden and some are definitely due for more tree surgery. I have a beautiful hawthorn on the boundary by my opposite neighbour, which I favour over the magnolia but the magnolia is spreading towards it too. The hawthorn was crown reduced 2 years ago, it’s much nearer the opposite terrace, but probably 40 or 50 yrs old + so I hope no problem. Someone long ago has lopped off branches the terrace side so its growing on my side only but somehow stays upright! There’s a massive bay in my immediate neighbour’s garden on my terrace, which used to be pruned annually but her tenant is absent so it just keeps growing and is taller than my magnolia now. So that plus the magnolia will make a canopy soon if left unchecked. Any advice please?

  20. I think the Woodmizers are probably more expensive that the Trakmets at the minute, my first one was pre brexit so no tax implications and a good price, super well built etc, since then I’d say price has gone up and quality down as they have got bigger as a company. That’s only an observation or my opinion and in no way are they not well put together it’s just a few finer details and looking at welds etc you see a few differences. My current machine is set up to cut up to 1.2m diameter and 1.1m between the rollers so not as fast as a woodmizer LT 70 for example but it’s what it was specced up for. I’ve seen Woodmizers being used but never had an opportunity to compare the two. I think there’s an old thread in here about them, Big J in particular has used both. Roughly at min I’d say LT70 wide is around £65-70k petrol kubota Trakmet TTP 600 Wide £50-55k plus generator.
  21. Whenever I come across old tree trunks, I see potential—not waste. I've repurposed them into rustic benches, planter bases, even carved stools. If the wood’s solid, turning it into slabs or milling for live-edge furniture is a great option. Otherwise, letting them decay naturally supports habitat and fungi. It really depends on species, condition, and your tools or vision.

  23. Found this abandoned pet in the shallow brook that runs along the edge of Gloucester Park last month. Not the frequently seen UK feral Red-eared terrapin or the very closely related (sub species) Yellow-bellied slider, this is an Eastern Musk or Stinkpot turtle. It wouldn’t have survived through the winter where it was, so it resided with me for a week until collection by a rescue centre in Kent which specialises in reptiles. Stinkpot turtles are smaller, have shorter legs and more highly domed shells than Red-ears/YBS and judging by observations, are generally much more secretive and timid too. EG It never climbed out to bask on the rocks I provisioned for it. The common names allude to the species’ defensive strategy of emitting an unpleasant odour when alarmed. Thankfully, I didn’t experience this first hand. Presumably because, being used to handling as a former pet, the animal’s disposition was pretty chilled.😎
