  6. Hi all Not posted on here in a long time! I have re built my lawn mower engine due to it being run with no oil and the conrod arm seized to the crank...i have replaced all the relevant parts and rebuilt the engine ensuring that the timing belt was set to top dead centre and replaced to exactly the same position as it came apart. Is there a quick way I can check this is done correctly and could this be the cause of the engine not starting if slightly out? I have cleaned the carb, replaced the air filter and yet she just doesn't want to turn over at all. Are there some lawnmower geeks out there who can point me in the right direction please? I've asked a few before hand and worked through everything they have suggested but still no joy! Any help appreciated cos I've got to that frustrated point😂
  7. I’ve reused a few tree shelters its very time consuming and the volume of tubes will be huge unless you pack them all back into each other. That will take ages nice idea but maybe not practical soz to be negative david
  8. Passed my shooting test with the Krag, shot a bit of black powder with my Martini Henry.
  9. That is a surprise. At least they serve beer in French McDonald's joints.
  10. My paternal grandfather was RAF in WW2, and stayed in for decades following. They lived in France for a few years in the 50s, stationed on an American air force base near Paris, and my dad, born in 1946, distinctly remembers the collective national pantswetting when the Yanks brought over their Coca Cola not in the traditional curvy glass bottles, but the fancy new tins. Very exciting times.
  11. It’s a strange dichotomy that the French are often superficially dismissive and snooty about America and Americans yet are suckers for Americana. Macdonalds, Harley Davidsons etc. They love them!
  12. this will surprise most of you !!! McDonald's restaurants by country Europe 2023 | Statista WWW.STATISTA.COM In 2023, the European country in which McDonald’s operated and franchised the majority of its establishments was France (including Monaco).
  13. Where is your friend based? That might be a better question, maybe not a suitable location in this situation but someone else following this thread might be able to help out.
  14. That's part of the cause probably. In a lot of UK garages now you actually have to fight your way through aisles of tempting crap to get to the cashier. They make it difficult just to go straight up and pay.
  15. My Tobroco giant did similar on starting once turned over and then nothing, it was a fuse but had broken up and looked OK. Maybe best to try fuses again by switching the ignition one.
  16. If, and it’s a big if, that is to be believed. I can only attribute part of it to the relative lack of opportunity to buy snacks in garages etc. In the UK you can buy crisps, drinks etc at a myriad of outlets all day. Here the garages sell petrol/diesel and maybe some oil. You have to take your food with you every day. You can go to a supermarket of course, but that’s a bit more of a commitment than grabbing a handful of sweets when you’re passing a garage.

    Why sprockets ?

    Hexa chains

all these fancy chains and hexy chains and things are great until you realise you need to get whole new sprockets and files and stuff and throw out all the spare chains and files you have already
  20. They use them as spacers for stacks of long runs of metal furrings (first fix electrics). Clearly not a softwood type as no resin is present. Smells nothing like conifers and is a bit less prone to dents.
  21. I've seasoned them myself for three years, outside under a open roof, stacked on 30mm spacers in-between. Then I put them under the beds for another two months before I did anything with them. They do have bits of poplar occasionally amongst the rest, which is easy to distinguish.
  22. I’m glad they thought to include this infographic. Not sure any of it would have made sense without it.
