Thanks for your responses guys. I'm really trying to get an idea of how well made this machine is, and how it might handle say, wet conifer/gnarly hawthorn ? I suspect maybe poorly, like our old gravity fed machine, than our timber wolf 150 -but the various machine owners in the Somerset area must know, first-hand.. 🤔 TIA

All these cheap skid steer loaders about…….

The type of work you are thinking of doing are you going to buy right machine. Would of thought not big enough to make life that easy or be productive enough. Ground clearance is what you need to look at, I know from using my Tobroco giant in woodland with odd high stump left and not seeing one until to late and sitting on top of it. -

I’ve tried frank, just waiting on a reply👍 I’ll look into the others cheers! I completely see why they rarely come up second hand. Clearly a buy right buy once job -
Yes definitely de-stressed the bearings as the workshop manual states. Thanks.

Fitted Loncin engine to my stump grinder after Honda started breathing oil heavy. Straight fit apart from safety switch wiring but got it sorted in the end. just need to check shaft size when ordering metric or imperial.

I never touched the Briggs ! I broke before I became that curious !

Did you de-stress the crank bearings after screwing the crankcases together? Unlikely to stop the engine running completely but usually missed by many. The rest of it, could be anything and depends on your experience in rebuilding engines and fuel systems.
-
I don't know the machine, but a general risk from rebuilding is a slight error eg intake boot not assembled as airtight, then everything is new but as soon as it starts and you get it off choke it's running lean with insufficient lubricant.

Very difficult to buy secondhand I have plenty of people who would like my avant or Cormidi they would never see the market These machines retail 25 to 40000 new, they turn up every day don’t go sick, are never late, and don’t require more money once you have bought them, it’s very possible to hire implements for them you don’t use very often, especially if you have a relationship with a good dealer, At £40.000 they I believe are cheap labour, less than you will pay for a man over two years and you get the residual value buy a new one you will then know it’s history if your interested in a Cormidi speak to Andy Elliott DJB machinery Ashbourne

Highly unlikely unless it was near full power back in the day and now has some trick delrin parts and a decent higher rated mainspring. What is it...Meteor, Mercury or Airsporter?

I decided not to use resin so used wood glue and the fine sawdust from the sanding. Seemed to work. So my wife has put at least half a dozen coats of Tung oil. How should we finish it off or is that ok. Does it need sealing with something or left to breathe?

Would that be the YPVS👍

trouble with pedestrian 'walk behind' grinders the engine is getting further from level the deeper you grind. Ebay sometimes has some Raycos and Carltons 'new engine fitted' A 350cc two stroke liquid cooled grinder using a Yamaha RD350 lump

Bolognese made with Turkey mince. We've got a glut of Basil, hence the heavy garnish. Turkey is underrated and under used I think. Having slices of dry old breast meat just once a year is silly. The thigh is much better and versatile; minced or diced it's a good substitute for pork or beef.

The fact you can balls up a Honda makes me wonder whether we should all have a bit more sympathy with Briggs and Stratton.

You were still at school in 86 ? Pull the other one 😉

My friend did it all. He sent off the slab to another guy who planed it AFAIK. Cracks were filled with a clear resin and then some oil or coating. Sorry I don’t know the full details, I just saw the table at his house and it looked great.

I changed the carb when I did the head gasket. I've just had another go at the valves and run it up again. Runs better but not perfect plus the oil seems to have burnt off. Now, like a muppet, I stripped the thread of the valve cover so it won't seal. It's off the my local machine shop to get that sorted tomorrow. If I'm lucky they might even tune it for me. These things really should have been taught at school in 1986, I might have paid some attention !
-
Can you take me through the whole process. What saw did you cut the slab with, how did you plane it and sand it and what oils did you use and how did you apply the oils/ varnish and how many coats My wife has ordered some squarer legs and I will post a piccy if they look ok And did you fill the cracks or just leave them

Do you reckon a 50 year old BSA177 needs a chronograph? I always thought a chronograph was a posh watch!
