The wife has been missing for ten days now and the police just told me to prepare for the worst news. I'm broken, better head down the charity shop to get her stuff back.

I doubt it and I bet they cost a lot. Stirling engines are typically in hermetically sealed units, like freezer compressors, to prevent leakage of working gas. The only DIY thing I would consider would need petrol, diesel, LPG or mains gas. A small water cooled engine and in my case just running to charge a battery an hour or two a day in winter.

Just for my interest; is there a shear that would grab a bunch of gorse, birch or holly coppice, pull the whole bush and root up, then shear the root off? Say up to 3" diameter and generally shear 5"? What size 360 would it need?

I bought a cheap KATSU Bench Drill Press recently that seemed to have two ON buttons, one of which you needed to keep pressed, so two handed operation. Its now permanently cable tied on.

Sorry to hear that mate- been there, and it's rough. Firstly, if the pills aren't helping after a month, definitely get the dose tweaked. I started at 50mg, that did **************** all, then went up to 100mg, which was a game changer. Be prepared that the first few weeks can be tough on the new dose. I also found therapy useful, did it via the betterhelp app. Once I'd settled with a therapist, I took the sessions privately, and binned off the app. Some people find CBT helpful. I didn't. If it weren't for the therapy and tablets, I doubt I'd be here, let alone having started a new career in this industry, and be absolutely loving it. Take your time, get the help you need, and drop me a message if you ever need to. All the best

Personally I dont get the two handed operation safety logic? When I use a big cut off saw I operate that with one hand on the trigger, I’ve managed to work out that if I put my free hand in the sharp spinny bit my hand will most likely become detached from my wrist. When I use a lathe/miller, whatever, again it’s not really rocket science to know it’s not a good idea to put your pinkies in the danger areas! The two handed operation inevitably leads to one person loading/unloading the beam and another operating the dual levers-100 times more dangerous than single handed operation. The world has gone nuts with this safety overkill! Makes me sad to have to live in this era🥹 Anyways, that’s my Friday whinge over with now, off to split some wood……with my single handed modification🤣👍

It is something that men 'don't talk about'... when in reality we should! Once you talk to others about depression you realise it is not something that you are alone in suffering from - a great first post to bite the bullet. There are many many resources out there that can help, I think AndysManClub was mentioned on here a while ago also. Somewhere there is a solution that works for everyone. Second thing I was going to mention is that there is no single cause, and it is often the little causes that no one notices - a relationship break up for example, all your friends will call to ask how you are doing. A heavy work load for a month? No one is going to phone "I heard you were too busy, how are you feeling" (as an example). Perhaps we shouldn't wait till a friend has broken before we ask how they are? Perhaps we should take away the filters in our mind when we do ask and listen better to the reply we get given? Hoping that having taken the first steps, things get better for you soon.

Anyone got one of the new angular looking Skarper chippers? I've read all about how they started as a rebadge Haecksler 3 but they seems to have remodelled now the c90 is discontinued?
-
Yes I've often wondered about CHP. Are these things properly serviceable to an enthusiastic DIY-er? One of things I like about simpler burners like ecoangus is you can take the whole thing apart - turbulators, fans, firebricks, pump etc.

You mean he doesn't chew Alex's food!

Did you find out anymore - was the subsequent sharpening any better? Cheers -
It doesn't sound like he's a dog to waste time on chewing his food!

Reckon you'll need to ask Sailor that one.

I've suffered depression on and off since I left school in 1986 though never diagnosed until I was in my thirties. I do find a few days in the sun ☀️ transforms my mood. A short break, cheap package holiday is an effective alternative medicine 💊 I'll not take antidepressants again, not since 2004 at least. It's been particularly grim here in the North of France recently and it manifests itself physically like a crushing pressure or negative radiation surrounding my very being. Also sharing dark humour with strangers online helps.

Well done for talking about about it. The black dog is a bastard. Believe it or not, these things seems to help a bit: Treatment - Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) - NHS WWW.NHS.UK Read about the main treatments for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), light therapy and antidepressants. 10 best SAD lamps to banish the winter blues, tried and tested WWW.INDEPENDENT.CO.UK Mood-boosting light therapy can help to brighten the dreariest time of year I'm not suggesting that SAD is the only cause for your malaise, but it's often a combination of things that kick things off. Stick with what your GP reckons. It can take a few weeks before anti-depressants kick in. Keep talking, and keep ahad!

Yes it's amazing how much wood even this little house gets through and no backboiler. I expect I get through 30kg of dry wood on a cold day. I would like a small version of this: First AllGen Biomass Installations in Germany and Sweden - Microgen WWW.MICROGEN-ENGINE.COM to supplement my solar power in the winter.

I've not been offered any for five years and became wary of stewing them in the slow cooker with an acidy marinade because of the lead. Do you get any with steel shot? Worry there would be breaking teeth.

Hi everyone — I’m new here and I’ve learned a lot from this forum already. A bit of background: I run a small, part-time tree care business (occasional jobs) for the last 4–5 years. I mostly need a chipper for walnut branches and similar hardwood. My budget is approx. €1,500. What I’ve found so far: Model: Victory GTS-1500 (petrol, Briggs & Stratton 14–15 hp / 420 cc). Reported capacity: shreds ~900–950 kg/hour and accepts branch diameters up to about 10–12 cm (~4–4.5 in). Shipping from Germany to Romania would be free and spare parts appear available on the manufacturer’s site. One important thing: I will not be chipping branches thicker than roughly 7 cm (around 2.5–3 inches). Anything larger will be cut and stacked for firewood, so I don’t need the full claimed capacity of the machine. My main questions for the forum: is the GTS-1500e robust enough for walnut (hardwood) on a regular part-time basis? Any known reliability issues with the feed system or engine on these units?
