For the sake of £5.10 and no screw holes in the bench I always use the stihl tool 5910 890 2800. 😉 The recommended grease is part number 0781 120 1109 which is described as a multi purpose grease, and specifically designed for hedge cutter gearboxes...but it is also the recommended stuff for clutch bearings from Stihl.

And since we’re now here, what oil/grease for the needle cage bearing? Manual calls for special Stihl lubricant. No, I didn’t read the manual before going to the shop. No, the bloke in the shop didn’t sell me any lubricant when he sold me the bearing. No, I don’t fancy going back to the shop tomorrow. Yes, I will if I absolutely have to. Have chain oil, machine grease, engine oil, maybe 90w gearbox oil on hand.

Just in case anyone’s struggling doing these, I just found a lovely way to make it easy. Screw it to the bench and use a cable tie instead of the special hook tool that the manual wants you to buy. Nothing earth shattering. Just a very little bit of joy into someone’s life hopefully.

Oooh didn't mean to do that... was just about to say one of the easiest places to clog up, and also easiest places to clear is the little hole where oil enters the saw bar, and then onto the moving parts of the chain. A small hole of about 2-3mm diameter on the upper part ofhe bar, about 5mm down from the top guide rail surface, where the bar is clamped to the engine. Shouldn't have to be describing this , but I'm beginning to feel that maintenance and regular care don't occur very often with this case.

I think yes the core is reduced, the Teufelberger spLIFE is thinner for the same reason.

It's nice if you don't have to do anything physical, but working in that temperature is basically torture. I am fully aware of how heat acclimatisation works, but it's still hard for me to fathom how folk in warmer climes manage. I'm pissing sweat at 20c if I'm working.
