Have seen the smoke system measures that JaySmith mentioned and it did look effective. Jeweller stood outside his shop in high Street in clouds of thick white smoke, I thought it was being fumigated but he'd had a fault on security system. He said it'd be hours before he could go back in. Police had to close the street for a bit as traffic couldn't even drive past.

My money would be on 'it was his mental health' rather than '2 slips in the shower'!

Not convinced it's to do with the colour of his skin really. The news needs an audience and I imagine few viewers want them to 'support' the Cop who abducted and murdered someone. I've not heard mention of any actual allegations that the suspect was assaulted in custody. It might be suggested that the injuries were self-inflicted

A single rod passes through the bollard with the other two butted against the centre and welded. Sorry but I can't get a very good photo.

Used a magnet from a speaker to find a lost quick-clip from a brushcutter harness before, it worked

Yes, have an 18" bar on mine mostly. Rarely used the 15", couple of times I've used bigger than 20 (when needs must) but it's not really recommended.

Was asked to place a length of log as a riverside seat, I used 4 fence posts to secure it but when the river flooded the log floated up and away. Replaced the log with some wire over each end stapled to the posts and that was solid. I did consider drilling through the log and hammering rebar through holes into the ground for an anchor

Being tolerant of discomfort is fine, but I'd rather not be distracted by unnecessary pain when I need to concentrate. As Steve Bullman said, tree harnesses are padded (with wide straps) for good reason. Enjoy your kit Mark, stay safe

Your harness looks just as uncomfortable as the one I made years ago! Wouldn't fancy using the lanyard, is it your only attachment to the tree? It's a good thought process to go through, working out what you need and how to achieve it. How did you find using crampons up a tree?

They do look a bit mediaeval but well done, you've obviously put some thought in to making them. Be interested to see the harness and other gear you've made. First few times I tried climbing was with a homemade harness, a length of webbing tied as a "rescue seat". Absolute torture but I didn't fall out of it.

Thank you. There will be a small and medium digger available so no problem to prepare hole first and it'll be lifted and planted on the same day. It will have all the care it requires afterwards. I used to live in the house and the tree was planted in memory of my late partner by her Mum so it'd be nice to at least try to save it. When I replant it, should it be facing the same direction as it does currently?

I'd be grateful for any opinions or advice regarding moving a Rowan, 20yr old and around 3m tall. It has limited root spread on the house side (1m), as initially planted close to a small retaining wall. There is a drain to be laid more or less under the tree so it'll be gone unless I can move it, and I have 2 weeks to work with. What would be the best approach, or is it too short a time frame to attempt?

Was using a friends 161T over the last couple of days, quite a nice little saw but often found the trigger felt awkward. Does the 540i have 2 clips for attaching to harness/strop, like the T540?

Went round a Community Woodland near us called Wooplaw, lovely walk. Santi is always deeply suspicious of the memorial to the late Tim Stead (sculptor and furniture wizard), whenever we pass it.

I misunderstood, thought you meant concrete you'd put in round posts was lifting. Whatever the purpose of the concrete you laid, I wouldn't think the brand of cement used should matter

It does look a well thought out trailer. Is he painting PVA on the cuts, what's the purpose?

Is there much point grinding the stumps if it's to be tarmac? Would think the ground will be dug down anyway for the base, if they're small diameter stumps they'd be grubbed out
