  1. Have used chainsawbars and they're very good. Recommended them to a friend who's very pleased with his new bar and chain too
  2. Jack, if it was Halfords then not surprising it's so expensive, a mate went to get headlight bulbs fitted and they wanted almost £60 for 2. Independent place 5min away supplied and fitted for £20.
  3. It's a long time since I looked at the prices, but I could travel from Scotland to Roland Heming and do course with accommodation for similar cost to just the course locally. Worth checking it out. PS: be aware that assessment may be an additional day after the training
  4. It's like my water bottle, a capacity of 750ml but it's held hundreds of litres
  5. Does the 5 day course include the assessment or is it an additional day? There are training providers that offer a combined price for training, assessment and accommodation. I know Roland Heming does that, and the total price including accommodation is cheaper than the course alone elsewhere
  6. My own helmet and definitely no heads were damaged. I'm often reminded if I look like I'm losing patience, that I'm at risk of another 'chainsaw helmet moment'
  7. Ah, was just a minor event then, thanks for putting my mind at rest Khriss
  8. I hadn't even considered a level beyond handbags, that would be a serious altercation! I did once throw a chainsaw helmet in anger, wonder where that incident would sit on the scale
  9. As an official adjudicator of the Handbag level it'd be helpful if you could reveal the max/min scale. It's like the covid tier's to me, no idea how bad Level 2 is
  10. Had a dusting here in the Borders, a couple of inches so far
  11. Yes, saw the cook pot, and like the hanging from bucket technique very much. But there's tinfoil below it at base of fire? Maybe just yesterday's sandwich wrapper
  12. Watched 'Last woman on earth', BBC last night. She visited some Forest Cleaners in Sweden who use horses to extract logs. There was 2 horses working together to pull a palms trailer with its own grab, very peaceful.
  13. What's the minimum gear Liam might need to start off with eggsarascal? I know nothing about 'doing logs'
  14. I'm not following the logic here. If the laborious nature of doing logs would disappear once money is earned, why would the laborious nature of groundwork not disappear with payment? Anyway, never really felt that tree work was laborious myself, more often surprised by how much doing it makes me happy, and yes, even in the heat or cold and wet just dragging to a chipper I'm usually smiling inside.
  15. Del boy in a kilt, you don't know how lucky you are! I didn't hear a note from the bagpipes on auld years night, in Scotland. Still fuming that you have your own personal piper, and you live south of London!

    Shingles

Calamine lotion might help with the itch as well
  17. I broke so many screens while having the phone in my pocket at work I got a bombproof case for it. Never broke after that but it wouldn't let me hang up from a call so ditched the case and leave it in the pickup now, very safe!
  18. Sounds nice, wish I could join you. Post a pic if you go please 👍
  19. I often do it (fortunately I have ongoing permission from a few woodland owners) but have rarely had anyone question what I'm up to, although I'm in a fairly quiet part of Scotland where people are less concerned about trespass. Only twice been approached, a guy that was interested in the equipment as he used to climb and woman wanted to apologise for her dog peeing on my rope bag! Have wondered if wearing helmet has similar effect to hi-vis waistcoat and people assume you're official
  20. Many thanks to the people that responded, I'm very grateful for you taking the time to help
  21. Is that the whimsical woodsman? Worked with guys once that often mentioned him
  22. Please don't consider all opinions given in this thread as being equal. The poster that made these comments is unsure of the facts. Note the advice of Chris at Eden and others who are professional people, experienced in the subject and genuinely trying to advise
  23. Agree with the point Anno made about evidence. Can you provide the authorities with anything that supports your belief that the single tree in question is causing your sons health problems? Otherwise, I can't imagine the council being swayed in their decision based solely on your 'belief' the tree is the problem. Hope you find a solution.
