  1. Strimming non stop all week is hard work and probably a bit pointless .I will be glad when it’s done .it is really a flail cutter job but the client claimed they couldn’t find anyone .I’m not sure how well they would work in very matted grass
  2. Possibly ,i was back on the job today and ran it for another 6 hrs .sometimes it runs better for no apparent reason. there was some thicker matted grass which it bogged down a bit with but not too bad other than that .it runs better with a few squirts of carb cleaner through the air intake
  3. Thanks for the pointers , have set the idle a few times only to find it then goes back to going too fast .when its run for long periods flat out it seems much more of a problem Did run better for the first 2 hours though after cleaning the carb
  4. Just looked it does have a small hex type unlike chainsaws /hedge cutters .it had me confused as only a screwdriver came with it but it probably would have been done when serviced at shop .had read to loosely tighten both the H and L screw then undo both 1 and a quarter turn? I adjusted the idle when it warmed up so the cutting head was only just slowly turning on idle then after a few hours it then spins on full speed I got the most power out of a cheap machine once having them both set to the highest,it still lasted along time before the piston broke in 2
  5. I cleaned and adjusted the carb on this then ran it for 5 hrs non stop .it worked better for the first 2 hrs then the speeds kept changing again and it got more shakey after a while .seems to go from fast then too slow which then makes it hard to start ,i was going to change the carb but not for nearly 100 quid for a Stihl one also couldn’t work out how the high and low works with no turn screw? Only the LA can be adjusted ,seems very daft
  6. Stihl 261 is a good all rounder upto 18’’ .i didn’t score the 391 highly it was underpowered for the weight
  7. We got a few mid sized bass tonight but too small so back in they went I was there in an orange sea kayak ,think I saw you on a small dinghy
  8. It’s in a field with nothing much near .i could just spray petrol all over and watch it burn away
  9. Only trying to cut 4ft grass with it .regret selling my old 55cc echo ,I had 3 Strimmers at the time and was given it for nothing
  10. ‘’For working in large areas with tough grass’’😂 .there new hl94 is shite as-well for the price .wont be bothering with anymore of this Fisher price junk
  11. Alright mush, it’s a 91 Stihl which I think is 40cc .came with a tree cutting blade but never came out the box as underpowered even for a line .i only run 2.4mm and struggles after a while in thick grass /weeds .its alright for the first half an hour usually ,when it first starts the idle speed is fine then after the 30mins it will be going at full speed lol making holes in the lawn
  12. Bought this high end Stihl Strimmer from new and had it in for 2 warranty repairs but it is still not great and never really was ,yesterday it was ok on the first tank then after that felt underpowered and engine /idle speed up and down .ive now got a large clearing job and thinking this would struggle .maybe 40cc just isn’t enough for what it’s used for.its also been serviced and can confirm it’s crap
  13. Spend my life cutting those .seems like when there cut it only encourages them to grow even faster .no harm in trimming back by about a third
  14. Could just ratchet tie them in bundles ready for chipping so less trips back and forwards
  15. I been cutting a hedge for the last few days full of ivy and been sneezing lots .the itching didn’t seem as bad when cakes in sun cream
  16. Probably intended of removing the nasty conifer anyway then made a story out of it first for some cash .one of them probably works as an editor or online marketing etc .

    Job rates

Bit of a boring topic this bit for the last 2 jobs Someone pays double the billed amount but then looked at another job earlier and and was told that quote was too much so didn’t get that one .Apparently I’m far too cheap but it’s a tricky balance between being too cheap or being over priced .lopped a tree earlier for 100 quid for an hours work and then other times could work most of the day for the same amount. I get the feeling though that better off doing less jobs for decent money or not bothering at all with day rates /hourly rates or maybe just work a little slower and take it more leisurely on the work
  18. Anyone noticed that the new version of this engine doesn’t seem as powerful as the older one? The new replacement engine now been run in for about 10 hrs and tried tuning it same way that I did with the old one and definitely not as good .i got the most power out of the old one with the carb speeds set high and it still lasted along time before pistons broke .this new one only goes about a third the speed with the side button left on
  19. i’d have thought mulching it down with a long reach hedge cutter would be a good option .if they are particularly woody then finish off with a brush cutter .rake it up and sling into ton bags .new regrowth sprayed with a few applications of strong glyphosate
  20. do a few large Strimmer jobs with very similar problems.all the juicy stuff ruins even the good Strimmer clothing gear and soon turns green .wearing a rain jacket and gloves helps a lot to keep it off the skin .another common problem was having to often wash the face visor off to be able to actually see properly.i usually more prone to conifer rash , aloe vera usually helps
  21. a lot of jobs on day rates will never go in your favour .Hourly rates can be better but never say it will be finished in x amount of time only roughly estimate .also say if you estimate a job £1500-2000 and finished in good time client will also want to pay low end.then asking near the end of the day if you can lop another tree included in deal which apparently only takes 10 minutes
  22. could have potted it up,worth a few quid for a specimen plant etc we got one about 20ft which was dug up about 5 yrs ago from mrs miggins garden and survived fine .
  23. Yep Similar issues trying to source materials for a job .in the end I just said didn’t want the job as too much hassle sourcing everything - postcrete in particular impossible to get hold off ,even retailers which sell for nearly 8 quid had sold out and usually can be bought for half that price .should perhaps open a building yard ,the local ones in high demand keep increasing the prices aswell
