  1. Might be getting a composted mulch on the top surface which will help hold the moisture and improve soil .also i was told by someone if you took about 2 or 3ft foot off the top the energy would go back into the roots and make it healthier
  2. Some of these masks people are wearing look completely useless and total waste of time .also to add to that not much social distancing going on in shops now so in a way it was more effective before with at least the social distancing rules being respected .
  3. Hello.i had noticed a while ago on a thread it said your based on the Isle of Wight ?

It’s a bit of a long shot but could you recommend a company to work for or do you know of anyone which might need a hand on at least a part time basis .I may be looking for work over there in a few months but currently working on the mainland (i have got all the tools and and can help as a groundy/ground based cutting /forestry /hedge maintenance and general garden tidying

    many thanks

  4. Have noticed today that fast food drive through seems to be exempt from these rules? .seems a bit strange as the staff get close enough to customers when handing over the orders but then if you order In store they will ask you to put the mask on ... all a bit daft really.whole world gone mad
  5. Went down the town for some bits earlier and not very comfortable at all to spend any length of time shopping with a mask on so just got bare esssentials and got out ASAP.shops not as busy like normal but cafes with dining are full as the rules don’t apply. All a bit daft really.borris missed the boat on this one .should have thought about such rules months ago whilst in the height of the pandemic
  6. Hi yes had tried this model and thought it lacked power and build quality but maybe I just had a duff one .if the grass was too thick/ slightly damp it just clogged up the deck .even when cutting high.by the time I had tested it they didn’t offer a return
  7. That’s interesting as bought a brand new mid range Honda mountfield mower a few years ago with very similar motor and was useless and completely lacked power .(and nothing like the older Honda hrx 537 mowers) have found husqvarna ones to be better value for money and seem to last well real test will be in damp grass .

    Band saw

Yeah these were not the cheapest @£42 each but not bad quality apart from the saw marks which haven’t completely come out.have seen them for Under £30 online but not sure what grade/quality they might be .(was meaning to have a look at the travis Perkins ones for £34inc vat ) but anyway high delivery cost not worth it unless buying in bulk . it is easier to pay more and go to the local yard

    Band saw

Yep softwood is better value for money and quality usually good this particular job they wanted oak though.very dense and heavy to cut on a mitre saw but seems to get through on test run .got all ten on a roof rack .could have been a good one for that overloaded thread

    Band saw

That is true that they are only garden sleepers but these cost double the price of softwood which always seems to be cut perfectly .maybe processed on a bigger machine? and possibly imported from France or Canada

    Band saw

Had bought 10 oak sleepers last week for a job and just interested to know why the bandsaw marks go so deep into woodgrain ? Possibly semi dull cutting blade ? Never had this problem with sleepers before But i have taken a fair bit off with a 60 grit belt sander but the marks are still very visible (Had selected best ones from suppliers yard so no point complaining)
  12. Not defensive just know the facts .but your right though it could Have just be an attempt to get his jobs done quicker=more profit . he still offering jobs even though had explained no longer interested .seems as though he will might get desperate.
  13. I didn’t get it either .took fair time over the years to be able to be able to buy all that stuff outright so do find it one of the worst insults . Personally seem to have a talent of finding tight arse clients .
  14. Funny boy.he was referring to hedge cutters /chainsaws Some of my own tools include.Stihl hsa 86.hs45.hl95 (all sharpened).bg blower Stihl msa 120 .ht133,ms 150,241,261,391.Stihl brushcutter/husqvarna mowers flatbed trailer /small chipper and loads of other various bits
  15. Wise words There ,K I have been mugged off before with no job payment so know the score . Even after the latest subcontractor job done I didn’t receive payment in full due to pathetic excuses like ‘’tools being underpowered and working slow in general ‘’ . Back with another more professional firm next week on council trees which will be more enjoyable
  16. As it happens above matey put me on large hedging job this week to sort out and the work was all done to spec and client happy but now starts slagging me off again implying I’m slow and my tools underpowered etc all untrue but I guess he under quoted the work maybe .so working relationship now completely over but doing some groundy work next week for another guy and will be going solo now.
  17. They are bit late really in deciding to only bring this rule in now. many will only get essential food shop now after this and shops are likely to see sales Down and some even next to none. Very strange times indeed .will be interesting to see how this one pans out
  18. Also another question.got more devegetation strimming to do on Friday with the sorts of stuff that you quickly get caked in which ruins work clothes and never fully comes off after washing.so what to wear for such occasions which won’t be too hot
  19. That is a common scenario with the conifer on the picture and certainly hasn’t be maintained by the finest of gardeners .can still be green on the neighbors side so sometimes not the easiest thing to sort out Have tidied up similar ones before and planted climbing plants to make it back into a hedge .
  20. That is interesting but could take a lot of grinding / prep work to get closeboard fencing in .have only done a few jobs like this taking away builders crappy dead conifer hedges and replanting but the ground can be like solid concrete in new build gardens so easy to under quote for
  21. Yes the privet ones are nasty things but connifers are the one I hate the most and burn ya eyes if the clippings land in there Yew and Portuguese laurels are nice though but not cheap .very few will pay out to remove a line of scruffy bushes then replant afterwards
  22. That is a good point .Also from what I’ve seen most hedge maintenance work isn’t done that great at all.seems that companies quote for the job then just do it to minimum acceptable standard and make more profit out of it but apparently similar things is pretty common in a lot of trades .Once got 100 quid tip from a hedge job .some will notice the attention to detail
  23. Yeah the wood is very soft .even cut 6ft ones before to the ground with a freshly sharpened hedge cutter .it is mostly just those nasty privet things to sort out
  24. Say if you are cutting overgrown privet or laurel hedges taking about 3 ft off tops and side .(and job in question doing about a 40m run of domestic medium sized hedges ) There has been some questioning though if I’ve got the best time efficient technique.I tend to go down sides first then put the top angle on with long reach cutter then cut the long stuff in one swipe then rake it off the top followed by cutting remaining stuff to fine finish then all raked up into builders bag and remaining leaves blown back into hedge. sometimes on other jobs might just mulch it fine and leave it in the top of hedges but that isn’t that quick either or done to same standards. I like to do it to this standard so hopefully people notice the difference a lot of people I’ve seen on there hedge work seem to just leave most of the material left in the hedge which is bit of a lazy bodge way of doing it.
  25. the roller would go round way too fast .mrs muggins windows plus rest of the house would also be painted white ? Stihl is ok but trying echo and more husqvarna stuff next time
