  1. Yep ‘tis the 8 valve 1.6 petrol model .nothing mechanically wrong just seems as though I bought the worst engine variant.the tdi 1.9 diesel is probably the best in that car
  2. The golf still a good car which would probably easily do another 20yrs maybe there is a market to export these sorts of vehicles .
  3. Hi yes it’s a 99model .only been driving it 3 months but seemed ok in the summer seemed a good buy for not much money with only 35k and very up together .but mpg terrible and even driving it ultra smooth still only gets 26 mpg.normal driving is low 20s probably selling it in January with a new mot
  4. Out of interest how long does it take for your cars to get upto temperature ?...bought an old golf which now takes nearly half an hour
  5. Autos also my choice even for runabout cars .have had a few autos now and seems as though some of the auto boxes are quicker going through the gears than others so bhp not everything . With a manual though there is many more wagons to choose from
  6. Presumably you are charging for the dumping facilities if a lot of the wood is of a low grade with very little or no value so that is where the money can be made .so to clarify value in charging to dump but maybe not in mixed low grade wood .I would also be thinking about just doing pallets as they can easily be repaired and resold or broken down and planks sanded and stored. There is Easier money to be made in screening soil or recycling concrete /stone fo mot .id just stick to staying in bed though
  7. As a wet day project had made all the chair components but it seems it’s harder to get perfect angular mortise tenon joints without going through the whole way through the timber .first proper attempt at carpentry but think this one a bit too complex apparently though if someone can build a chair like that they can make almost anything
  8. Also the fixed shaft versions don’t seem to go wrong as quickly.recently replaced an older hl95 which was very solid and did about 6 yrs of heavy use but now got similar problem . Make sure to buy local so no warranty complications
  9. decided I could make do with a smaller bit so paid 70 for 95x95x1.6 .I am making a copy of a 200 yr old rosewood chair .its amazing the work and skills that went in to some of the old handmade furniture and now a lot of it can be bought very cheaply .
  10. Just interested Does 120£ seem a bit pricy for a prime grade slab of kiln dried oak with no splits etc ? 80mmx400mmx700mm . needed for chair making but this is turning out to be expensive project . thanks
  11. Sure it’s bad and not ideal but most green waste is much better than any household or builders junk .have seen logs left next to jobs by roads and people collect them for firewood .a week later big pile of wood gone by passers by
  12. Fair enough .everyone is entitled to the own opinion but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right . could give you a ring for a chat if your that worried about pikeys
  13. Not exactly asbestos or tyres dumped though as just looks like arb waste .he could have just dumped it on grass verge by a road and people would have taken it for firewood
  14. So yes getting back to the question. 35’’ with a 14’’ Fischer price chainsaw no problem ?
  15. Got to the end of a job today only to find larger saw didn’t work for doing the remainder of a 35 inch ish willow trunk.got the trunk down and cut into manageable chunks with a 14’’ ms180 which took a while and very unpowered for this sort of thing.had to improvise and make a few wooden pegs and whacked them in with a bit of wood until split.(cut the trunk in four longways so could handle it )
  16. one in a local sawmill which is English oak .65x900x 7.4 1500+ vat
  17. personally I don’t really see the point in tats in general but I do have a few .but don't particularly like them or dislike them .The end results of the art is usually pretty amateur to a certain extent or maybe I was expecting too much.very few artists are actually any good at it .
  18. Anyone else noticed these more recently whilst on a job ? Down south they are not usually a problem but have gone for me a lot today .they only seem to come out from about 2:30 then all go on a mass feeding frenzy.
  19. what about offering to leave the trunk in and make it into a seat .

    Chainsaw advice

Got a Stihl 241 which has only been used for a few weeks of forestry but could do with a service . could be on budget so one to think about .
  21. not that fussed really if it’s a paid job and no commotion .plenty of messy un native trees though which have outgrown there small gardens which are better being removed then trimmed .
  22. Even if he cuts it down it still needs seasoning first for 6 months + so all a pointless endeavour. Maybe look into scrap pallets or similar builder waste but don’t burn anything like MDF wood
  23. Maybe look at an older Subaru Forester or swb shogun 3.5.no point really buying anything too tidy as money down the drain
  24. Could just get cheap 30’’ rotor tech bar n skip chain Combo for a saw like a 390 but don’t overwork it .have cut similar size oak with 18’’
  25. Yes total waste of resources trying to do something like this which funds could have obviously been far better utilised on other projects.unfortunately though we’re all doomed anyway in the not so distant future as the the world doesn’t have enough available land to plant the trees required to offset our carbon and halt climate change .
