  1. Probably, however they own McConnell too and their machines are still good. So there may be some hope. It is sad to see smaller companies get swallowed up though.
  2. The fence around my property is of leylandii and maccie posts. The maccie are still good after 5 years, some of the leylandii are getting soft. Doubt it'll make the 10 year mark. All untreated and in fairly wet ground. Upside is they cost me next to nothing and the hedge will be up in another year or two.
  3. I have both the 261 and 501 and have a good few hours done with another man's 550 mk2. For most tasks I pick the 501 but it is slower to build up and a little less grunty but I prefer how it feels in the hand. The 261 is probably the better saw of the two, but not by much. The husky is hard to start and runs out of fuel way too quickly for my liking. I like to work up a sweat using the saw, not starting it.
  4. Where did that pesky cat go?!
  5. Have the stihl harness too, used it once and its hanging on a nail in the shed since. Couldn't get on with it, I like to be able swing the trimmer around a good bit. it put me off the harness idea until this year when I got an elephants trunk due to having knackered ligaments in my wrist. It's been a game changer. It's not for every job or situation and I have had to adapt me working style to facilitate it but makes the job much lighter overall and I don't go home in pain, which has its benefits! Still, the rts has to be worth 3 quid and a wispa to somebody!
  6. Doesn't strike me as defoliation, plants seem healthy and I can't see any bare stems from leaf loss or yellowing /diseased leaves. I am curious if the other side has been cut back harder than the one pictured, I'd agree not to feed unless it looks to be struggling in the spring, which I doubt it will. I have seen laurel hedges in areas of poor soil struggle after hard cutting, they can come back looking somewhat anemic. (Often they are already rather yellow looking to begin with, this example isn't, from what we can see, but better photos would help) In situations like this an application of good quality compost or slow release fertiliser like osmocote can revitalise the hedge.
  7. Laurel is resilient, it will regrow. Best to give it a feed in the spring if it looks like it's not performing too well. Personally I wouldn't be concerned as there seems to be sufficient leaf cover remaining, although a couple of photos showing more of the hedge would help. Shape has a lot to do with the long term health of a hedge, it should ideally be narrower at the top than the bottom. Trimming twice a year helps keep it thicker too. It might be worth considering a trim in late spring and early autumn, this will help thicken the hedge and allow for a little regrowth before winter sets in which will help cover any gaps which can open up after trimming.
  8. Have two sets for my farmi ch250 and have never had an issue, it's not used daily but on average about twice a week. Using rotatech blades about four years now, trouble free.
  9. Nice, a friend of mine used lightly spalted birch as centres for doors in his kitchen units. Looks really good, especially with the cedar framing as a contrast. Might be able find a picture somewhere..
  10. Yeah, a second set is handy, means you're not too worried if the courier is a day late bringing them back! What part of the country are you in? If you're near Galway I could ask my man to give them a rub. I've a set to go to him in the next week or two.
  11. You earned your pay there. Nice finish too.
  12. Don't you understand?! The height changes. They're 70 when complaining to the neighbour about loss of light, then 30 when asking one of us for a quote to fell over the phone.
  13. Keen edge in tullamore. They do pretty much everything blade or knife related. For replacements sawblades.ie are good but do have exact measurements ready when calling. A local engineer in a large sawmill does my chipper blades on their planer jig. If you have a sawmill nearby They might be willing to sharpen them for you for the price of a pint or 3
  14. Well worth the hard work, you saved yourself a hell of a wad of cash there.
  15. Picked up a couple of fiskars bits in lidl a while back, loppers and a mini axe, some of their offerings are excellent value for money.
  16. Must be they're serious bowls! Top class work.
  17. Gawd man. If that came out of an oven you'd call it overdone. I'm equally repulsed and mesmerised by it. Must be like having a permanent leather jacket. She can probably ride a stunt bike naked without fear of road rash.
  18. Nice, what lathe you use? Something I've always wanted to have a go at. Just never got the chance, yet. Any more pics? My better half is the one with the knowledge of the fungus among us. Although I've noticed more visible this year than most.
  19. Schaeffer and Kramer do some nice offerings in the sub 3.5 ton range too.
  20. Personal trainers are predominantly douchebags imo. If you want to get fit, you won't do it on the phone. Get yourself outside and go for a run, cycle, jog, brisk walk or whatever. If you want to incorporate climbing I'd go for an indoor rockwall rather than a tree. You'll have someone there to save you if it all goes arse above tit. Ignore les BTW, it's after lunchtime, he's probably already in the pub!
  21. Serious improvement, looks much better than before. Did you keep track of how many hours it took?
  22. Dewalt have improved from their slump in quality. The brother has the full set and there's not a bad tool in it. I scrapped a few makita bits over the last couple of years and went to milwaukee. No comparison. I'd pick dewalts current offerings over makita.
  23. I spent an hour this afternoon looking for an inner tube for the front tyre on the young one's tricycle. Now i find out it was on that prick's head all this time.
  24. That's true, however a simple spelling test would make mcgregor look stupid. Not a fan of his attitude either. To be honest I was OK with mayweather taking the wind out of his sails for a while! I'd consider Katie Taylor a much better ambassador for boxing in Ireland. She has a more respectful nature overall, I think that makes the difference between a good and a great sportsperson.
  25. Not really at work, but when walking the dogs earlier I noticed this refraction on the dew and cobwebs showing up like a ground based "rainbow". Photos don't do it justice. It was a thing of beauty. Lovely morning for a lazy stroll through the sod fields.
