  1. Tipper trailer for me, doesn't need an MOT but you need somewhere secure to store it else you'll find it takes itself away in the night.
  2. I know of one locally which I reckon was hit by lightning a good few years ago, there are some dead limbs but being oak not much decay and so tree overall doing just fine. I think you need to wait a few years to even see what the effect has been, I guess the potential is a lot of root damage but maybe absolutely fine.
  3. How much do you use it? I haven't got a winch but when I looked at the costs I thought buying a 2T Eder type winch was better value for money, can attach to truck if needed but also take it away and anchor to a tree in a garden or wood etc.
  4. This is my understanding. If people don't want a stump grinding to save money, I tell them to go to Wickes and buy SBK. Unless it's conifer of course...
  5. Not much but just found it super easy to split and ends up a good weight, bit like ash. Elm and ash probably the most common trees round here, both good stuff.
  6. I don't think advising is a statutory function, making the decision to apply a TPO is and they don't charge for that.
  7. Walnut
  8. Besides, a two pulley setup is really effective for moving the rigging point away from the stem - nice big block high and central, and then pinto rig or RP066 positioned out and lower so that it gets a force vector straight down the branch. So, keep the block and also order the pinto rig. Maybe a sling or two and a few steel biners while you're there. Always come in handy.
  9. Those jobs are perfect, the neighbour can have all the light cord too.
  10. Blimey, over £300 is eye watering but I guess that's all you can do. Reminds me of the time we wanted to go to the Lego hotel in Windsor but it was £400 a night. We flew to Denmark and stayed in the Lego hotel in Billund for less.
  11. I stay away on engineering jobs maybe once a month, looked at Premier Inn a couple of weeks ago and it was £180 for the night! Needless to say looked elsewhere. Greene King Inns seem ok in the south, 70-80 like they used to be. If you need a few nights hard to beat B&B but you need to check in earlier so no good for traveling. Always used booking.com but I know some folks using AirBnB for work trips as well.
  12. Bounceback loan purchases?
  13. Not just you, sounds wrong. The danger I see from LA perspective is that you get a greater volume of speculative applications because pushing in various apps to see what is acceptable is free. In the end more people don't bother applying because not much chance of being caught anyway.
  14. Its a kind of artistic decision, my thoughts would be black resin will hide and be a little bit of character whereas monkey puzzle inlay needs to be part of a design pattern, much more of a feature. Inlay sounds harder to pull off but could be really nice if it works.
  15. Something like this, Osmo is a good brand you may find cheaper but of course less choice in colour https://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/product/osmo-colour-foundation
  16. My serious suggestion would be looking at floor oils, there's a big area there so you need something that's not too expensive per litre. Can also get trendy tints like white.
  17. I'm wondering if they could be sandblasted? Seems otherwise difficult to get all the splinters out from between the boards.
  18. Came across this guy who builds saws and also puts them across a dyno. Significant gains from porting both 200 and 201, not that much between the two. https://youtu.be/lcX6yAFTZEo
  19. Makes sense. Musing really, problem seems to be the amount of man days it needs to move a load. On the Rhine the boats I saw are much bigger so one man moves many lorry loads at once, divides the labour cost per tonne back down again.
  20. I reckon the wood would probably go below 20% over the summer, more sun and wind than rain. The challenge is then keeping it dry until you want to burn it.
  21. Fair enough, I was kind of thinking side hustle has to depend what you're good at - any good at chainsaw mechanics? If you get into porting saws there seems to be plenty of demand.
  22. I reckon your ideal job would be travel round to do tricky fells for tree surgeons on a Saturday. Most of us don't do many fells especially any size.
  23. The two pictures aren't the same chipper either. Definitely a bit suspect.
  24. Where do canals have an advantage though? Low fuel cost for heavy stuff?
