Ring up L&S, see what they can do. It says out of stock on the website for nearly all my Makita spares, just means they aren't on the shelf so take a couple of days longer to get in.

Last time I was asked to half some trees I pointed out that taking them down would be a similar cost because we can spike up and take all those annoying branches off at the bottom first rather than having to not break any of them. Result - remove 3 keep 3. Anyway , we can't see the trees. Maybe the beech is only 7m tall?

Take the biggest ladder you own, figure it out when you get up there. There's knubs and stubs up there to stand on, big vee on the right for a rest. See if you can slide out some of those fancy fence panels before you get going too, that trellis work looks a bit fragile.

On the other hand the big pile of dead euc we left there last week was all gone. Even had a couple of guys excited about turning bowls out of it, I thought they were crackers but didn't like to say.

We were pruning beech branches in a college today, apparently 4 people had asked about the wood before I got out of the tree. I said we should have put it on eBay.

No. In fact boring a hole down through the middle of the stem probably would just cause it to sprout loads from the base. Very unlikely to die unless you pour glyphosate into the hole, and even then I wouldn't guarantee it. It's a laurel.

I had the overrun pulley go on my Volvo, sounded really awful. As you say recon alternator was the fix.

Weigh the log then dry it in the oven if you want a bulletproof method of calculating moisture content. I think ash is only about 25% when green, 32 sounds too high. This is why people say you can burn it green, but actually it's better seasoned. -
Maybe there was a laurel hedge which got ground out to put the fence in, and they left a bit of root?

Stihl 026 is a solid saw, but it is 2 generations ago so I'd check spares availablity. Piston and cylinder less likely to be required but clutch springs, brake band, anti vibe mounts, starter pawls etc. Saying that you'll probably get what you need on ebay even if not available new. -

Anchoring to regrowth is one case I think two tie in points can make sense, especially if one is lower down as a backup. I've also become a fan of the SRT redirect as you can put a sling and biner round those stems high up, multisaver also works for that DRT. Or final thought, depending on how much you are taking off and what the bark is like on the old stems, sometimes the special pruning spikes can be used to good effect.

Looks like a post size lump of concrete next to it, you're welcome to that one. I do agree though, only way I can see to keep the tree is step the fence in a bay few feet away from it which will look daft forever, especially from the other side. Or take the fence down and plant a whole row of laurel?

Have you got hold of the handles when it's running round? I have a muck truck which is wheeled, has no steering built in so when loaded like that you lift a bit on the back end and it swings pretty easy. I'm wondering if you need to lift a bit too, so it's easier for the tracks to slide.

Have you got somewhere covered to work? Could be a way to be productive on days otherwise cancelled due to weather, that way you're earning a lot more than nothing.

He's going some to get 5 litres a day through a topper so no wonder the chains don't last.

I think I've heard of them as Scandinavian stoves, don't know where they started but makes sense the idea should spread around if they work so well. I can't remember anyone from Romania on here before, so is really interesting to get other perspectives on logs and fires thank you.

That bit doesn't depend where you are, answer is yes. I would guess the birch will die after a few years but hard to be absolutely certain - it might just fall over, 1m isn't a lot of leverage for main roots. Also if you build that close there'll be a thread in a couple of years about whether leaving or removing the tree will cause subsidence or heave.

That would depend which 6 months and where you are though, Sept to Feb not much drying whereas Mar to Aug in the sunshine and wind sat in IBC in the open would dry nicely round here.
