  2. Weighs a ton but this may be water from being on the tide. Feels like a hard wood. And cuts like a hard wood too. Sent from my 5010X using Arbtalk mobile app

  5. Not the best pic
  6. So I pulled this drift wood off of the beach near Formby. It was in total around 20 foot in length. Is there enough in the pic for someone to know what tree this used to be? The grain looks brilliant really tight. Sent from my 5010X using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Cheers I'll have a look at them 👍👍
  8. This is a pretty new venture for my employer. There is no experience from myself or any other member of staff with regards to the climbing side of things. I have been felling for 6 years and there is 4 others who have been felling about the same time. But it has all been ground based. Last year I was told to go up in a cherry picker every day for around 3 months felling some large trees and reducing some other large trees. This to me was verry botched and sketchy way of doing things so I made my opinions known that I wouldn't be doing it no more until I had completed some relevant training. The site is 640 acre and all my work is done within the boundaries. We do not do it for profit it's solely for the purposes of making the camp look tidy. And I am 6'2" pretty average hight but shtil trousers to fit my leg length have around a 40" waist for some reason.
  9. I think I may have to. Up to now they have been pretty good at buying what I ask for but in recent times a box of screws stretches the budget.
  10. Thanks for all the replys. I work for the public sector and the budget cuts are borderline embarrassing but on this issue I think I will have to be a little stubborn.
  11. As I have said in recent post I am about to do my climbing course. In the build up I am trying to get the kit together that I will require. As tree work is only one aspect of my work we do not have anyone in management with knowledge off tree work and the ppe required. I have 2 pairs of chainsaw trousers now a bib n brace pair of shtil and a better more lightweight pair of shtil. But they are only class A I think. My understanding is they have to be a class c for climbing?? (I may be right off the mark please bare with me.) They have just bought me a pair of portwest trousers that are worse quality than the 2 I already have. My question is what is the lowest standard I should accept? Considering I will be the sole climber once qualified. Any clarification you can give me will be appreciated
  12. This was a few weeks ago. I was getting paid double time to sit in a landrover and watch this ..... hate my job [emoji16] [emoji57]
  13. I'd second that. Tight chains cause all sorts of issues. Too slack u will get some extra wear near to the end of the bar and possibly have a chain slip off the rails.
  14. [emoji23] [emoji23] I should bloody hope so. Henry vii could have planted them ..
  15. I was always taught that after tightening you should comfortable be able to pull atleast one tang length (thats the pointy bit that runs through guidbar) the guide bar at the middle of the bar.
  16. Our log store was originally a hide out for catholic priests during the reformation in 1550's? I'll take some more pics on Monday of the roof construction it's something to behold!!

  24. Sorry to hear this ! Hate thieves sc of the earth. We once locked ourselves out of a transit tipper (55 plate I think) and had to call a locksmith. It was terrifying how easy he got in!!! There are 2 wires external to the van ( i wont ilaberate) that when touched together short the central locking and open all the doors !
