  1. Very true. But SC grows so many times faster than beech, and seasons quicker. You ever eaten beech masts? [emoji6][emoji106]
  2. Ton of feathers or ton of lead which is heavier kind of question. [emoji106]
  3. Kiln dried logs will burn quicker but only slightly, As the kilning process will split the log make splinters rise etc making there more surface area to burn. Generally an air dried log will have dried much slower, and if not exposed to sunlight will have cracked and split less. [emoji106]
  4. At those sizes I'd go big. 3" or 4". Then just sticker em and store them for years. [emoji106]
  5. Castanea sativa Possibly one of the best trees in the world. Fed medieval Europe with its protein and fat rich seeds. It's wood is tall straight and fast growing. And coppice!!!! Durable and easy to work with. Burns without spitting after 2 years drying. The list of object made from this tree is nearly endless. Nepia you need a new stove mate. [emoji106]
  6. On straight processor sizes it's fantastic and flys through. On arb chunks it's very slow. [emoji106]
  7. This is his machine. [emoji106]
  8. Think it was a 2015? With a 10"ish log it would take about 7 seconds to cut and split. I've got a video somewhere, that's how I timed the cycle. Yes 7 seconds fir the ram would be ridiculously slow [emoji23][emoji106]
  9. My mate bought a wp36? A few months ago.£7k Got about a 7 second cycle time. He just sold it and bought a stand alone splitter with 4 way head.£2.5k He reckons just as quick if you can use a Saw. And he's got £4.5k for a tractor with forks and several hundred ibcs.
  10. Well let's not mention Britain and America bank rolling the rise of fascism in the twenties and thirties to combat the threat of communism. Whoops[emoji849]
  11. Don't worry everyone From next week I will be selling: debrainwashing mineral water at $99.99 a bottle, Brainsaver tinfoil hats at $99.99 Astrologically enhanced Buddhist crystal dream chakra upcycled tofu welded yoghurt weaving spirit logs at $99.99 [emoji106]
  12. Aye. Even the nazis modelled themselves on the British empire. [emoji849]
  13. I wish. That would be great. But my yard is high on the edge of the moors. 2' beams, heavy duty steel roofing panels and a dozen IBC's full of logs to hold it all down. Otherwise it'll blow away. Another bloody expense. [emoji23][emoji106]
  14. If the heartwood is coloured, mill it. If it's clean, mill it. Either way in ten years time it'll be rare valuable timber. [emoji106]
  15. But J the problem has always been ignorance on behalf of end users. Taking the onus away from the public and into the hands of professionals is a benefit. I don't sell one year seasoned oak of beech because it won't burn. Ash,syc, birch etc will. We know that 20-25% mc air dried is the most environmentally friendly fuel you can get. I have started selling unseasoned wood, but only to clued up clients. It's the convenience of the buy it now culture we have in this country, so let them pay more. I don't even advertise firewood and I sell out each winter. Now if it's got to be 20% I'll have to build a roof between two containers. Dried firewood at 20% mc guaranteed at point of sale. £150 a cube? Next winter will be interesting.
  16. Yeah, I've got to go back with a magnet and line for a bit of "silky fishing" [emoji20][emoji226][emoji228][emoji225][emoji572]️
  17. Stihl rain jacket. It actually works. [emoji106]
  18. Chopstick, paintbrush, airhose and a rag, [emoji106]
  19. Had a stihl 440 for nine years. It fed my family the whole time. When I retired it and sold it to a mate it had 160psi compression. Ran it on: Stihl red mix Pump 98 fuel Stihl cheap chain oil. I'll never buy a Saw as good as that again. [emoji106]
  20. That short hairy guy looks like he knows what he's doing. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji106]
  21. Stihl 462/500i or my favourite the 261 For a ground Saw. Light and reliable. Unlike......... [emoji6][emoji106]
  22. Yeah, it was all wrong. 3' of wall missing below water level. Put bricks in, current takes them out. I'll have to go back in July for another crack. About 1 meter per second flow. And my silky Saw is on the bottom somewhere. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji107]
