  1. That is a nice slab[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  2. If the teeth are sharp, but the engine is screaming, it's the depth gauges. Always use a depth gauge tool! Especially for milling. After finishing a cut keep the Saw going, for 30-60 seconds, blipping the throttle occasionally. This allows the engine to cool slower. If you get logs from a forester they won't have metal in them. [emoji106]
  3. Cheers Agrimog, I'll not bother [emoji106]
  4. 5 years working for one guy means you only know his way. Get a couple of years subcontract climbing around the uk. You'll know more people and be a more experienced climber. Then with a big portfolio of interesting jobs, you can charge accordingly. There's a heck of a lot of start up costs in arb. Machinery is expensive and it breaks down. Staff/subby wages, paid out often before a client will pay. Also..... Training, Insurance Taxes More training More insurance Taxes Bigger vehicles Taxes Yard rent Taxes Etc. Taxes Etc [emoji6] Best of luck [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  5. The French..... Less ignorant?.... Than.... Than... Than.... No I give up. [emoji13][emoji12][emoji106]
  6. 2-5 years depending on size of log and airflow. 8" x 20" oak heart all nighters need 5 years in a barn.
  7. If you've got electric in there, put a small oscillating fan in the corner. [emoji106]
  8. I've also found myself "double booked" or "really busy" when asked to reduce 100m of 16' hawthorn hedge. [emoji12][emoji106]
  9. The metal bits stopping the cracking [emoji106]
  10. And does anyone know where I can buy them? [emoji106]
  11. Fresh clean Swann Morton scalpel blade, pin and tweezers. Scalpels are considerably sharper than a Stanley blade. Just gently stroke the tip along the splinter to open the skin. [emoji106]
  12. Get a professional to air spade the roots. Then cut appropriate girdlers. [emoji106]
  13. When I was nine, our headteacher decided to teach us advanced mathematics. Pye,trigonometry etc. I can distinctly remember thinking... I'm never really going to need to measure the height of a tree... How pointless is this... ??? Yes I agree modern standards have slipped, But education is trying to keep up with a very fast evolving world. 30 odd years ago there was no internet,iPads, white interactive giant computer screens, etc 30 years ago industries were places you got a job for life. Not an agency job for a week on a zero hour contract... When our kids enter the adult world in ten years or so time, what will that world hold for them? Will robots be doing all manual labour? Office jobs?
  14. Whereabouts are you based? Maybe try milling first? [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  15. Cidre du messac? Or farm?[emoji12] [emoji106]
  16. Have you tried sawmillers.co.uk [emoji106]
  17. I started tree work in Brittany France. Didn't realise until I returned to the uk that alcohol wasn't mandatory in arbwork. Espece des alcolique! [emoji849]?[emoji106]
  18. Personally I'd pop round their office to express my displeasure and ask for a refund in full. [emoji848][emoji106]
  19. Don't think so. That guy was North Yorkshire? [emoji106]
  20. Yeah, bad timing. 32, you'll be fine. Good luck [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  21. During the last years of the Reagan administration... Ronald suffered from dementia? He would wake up in bed, not knowing where or who he was... Until two suited men would walk in and say "Good morning mr President". ?????
  22. 07376803384 You've got my number. [emoji106]
  23. It's a bit like quoting fir tree work. Takes a long time to get it mostly right. There are many websites with price per cubic foot. This is for graded wood and character wood. However character wood is "subjective" and may be worth much more or less than graded wood. Then there is over sized wood, Burred, pippy, rippled, cankered, birds eye, tiger striped, flamed, Spalted etc etc. It's quite a broad subject really. [emoji106]
