  1. Get in to milling [emoji6][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  2. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Needs a few dozen 6" nails, maybe get some rebar and concrete in the cavity? Then wrap 30 different types of fairy lights and washing line, don't forget the barbwire either[emoji12]
  3. Had a very informative chat with Martin at greenmech yesterday. Made to a high standard in the uk, with dealer back up, cheap spares, and hold its resale value VS Chinese crap. Hmmmm[emoji848] [emoji12][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  4. Got the same issue with 55L motomix
  5. Oh dear, just got this email from my insurance people. [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51]
  6. Stihl boots are good, Bought a pair for the wife. I wear stihl or Andrew boots.
  7. That's some very long answered questions. [emoji106]
  8. An interesting log, Looks to be worth milling. There's a small slither of colour too. Will make some nice table tops [emoji106]
  9. Done this before, didn't go well. Client was convinced the large rot pocket was a "feature" and therefore worth more[emoji848] Also how many clients are prepared to wait 2 years plus to find out if it warps or splits? There's so much that can go wrong with wood drying. A timber merchant I know had some incredible 10'x2' burred oak. The 2" pieces were perfect, but the 30mm boards had up to 20mm warpage. Only good for chopping boards. Individual trees from gardens are generally stupidly overpriced compared with properly grown and harvested forest trees. As I often explain: Me: That's a lovely tree, I'll give you £50 for it. Client: But it's worth a fortune? Me: Yes, if you had 1,000 more I'd offer you a £50,000. But you have one. Client: Oh.
  10. Job just got postponed by a month. Should have something else that way this week. Dm me a phone number. [emoji106]
  11. I'm driving down to a job this afternoon and I'll be going past Alcester. Would it be ok to pop in and have a chat? [emoji106]
  12. You make everything? Castings, sheet work, electrics, hydraulics all from scratch?
  13. But aren't all chippers produced in China? I presumed it was only assembly in the uk?
  14. This is exactly what I'm wondering about. [emoji106]
  15. I've staved off buying a wee chipper for a long time, Won't be able to for much longer. But what I don't get is a Hyundai/Rock 14hp 4" is about £1500, whereas the cs80/100/m300/m400 etc is 3-4 times the price. I've used the cs100 on various occasions and it's a solid bit of kit which holds a decent resale price. Just can't understand why they are so expensive?
  16. Depends on many factors, Is it hollow/cardboard? Useful trunk only appears about 10'. Doesn't look 4' diameter either. I'd measure it. If it's clean rot free, I'd pay £200-£300 And that's top money. [emoji106]
  17. Yeah, I'm starting to get really fussy about what I mill. [emoji106]
  18. That's a good price, I personally hate to chip anything which could be otherwise used. Especially milling logs. [emoji106]
  19. Keep the tree as furniture! Get it milled by a local miller, Send it to a decent wood worker who could stack and dry it, then make you some beautiful bespoke furniture, designed for your home needs. Then replant a few more trees in more sensible places. Everyone's a winner. [emoji106]
  20. Sawmillers.co.uk [emoji12][emoji106]
  21. Those are some good looking Saw logs. There's got to be a mill somewhere who would take them. Chip prices are £20-£40 a ton. Those logs are £100 a ton all day. (And it would be bloody near criminal to chip them!!!!) [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
