  1. If it's 12cm x 8m at 30%mc it's firewood. Perfect through a branch logger. Could process straight into a lorry very quickly and get around £60-£75 a cube delivered in bulk. (100m3+) More work more profit. [emoji106]
  2. Total failure today. Client wanted a couple of reclaimed beams(10"x16") cutting in to planks. I texted him the price of hitting metal. He was fine with that. Got 4" in to the first cut, sparking and smoking. Filed the buggered teeth back. Got another 6". Another filing. Another 6" cut, I gave up. Had a look carefully and saw several more nails, screws etc. Wasted an afternoon and a 25" chain. Lesson learned, no resawing ever. Client was gutted, I felt bad, so I'm giving him a large slab, as I still had to charge him £150 for a 16" cut. [emoji51]
  3. Good man [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  4. Use feeler gauges or a 3/8 depth gauges tool. [emoji106]
  5. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] Nearly spat my coffee out. Bolam, you do make me laugh. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  6. Tighten that chain frequently and de tension afterwards. I'd recommend a few spare chains and a decent chain grinder. Post some more photos, Looks epic [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  7. How about a 3-4 year course like a degree? And you'd still only be able to cover the basics.
  8. Interesting idea. Bit like a chainsaw Lucas mill. When you mentioned changing angle of cut, could you cut a hexagon or octagonal can't? [emoji106]
  9. I use off cuts for chopping boards. Those are really nice slabs, what about a table top? [emoji106]
  10. I'm 43, and I'm really starting to feel it. However I've worked with two guys who trained and started in their 50's. And they're pretty good too. They bring a lot of skill sets to the table. [emoji106]
  11. Sweet chestnut is an amazing tree. Great for humans and nature. [emoji106]
  12. Get stuck in mate. [emoji106]
  13. Without going into too much detail, the biggest difference for speed is the moisture content, width and species. I adapt the depth gauges accordingly. For cedar go 0.85-0.9 mm For oak 0.65-0.75 The granberg is the best general ripping chain once resharpened to 0 degrees. [emoji106]
  14. Or@wonky he's near there. [emoji106]
  15. Yes. Mill it. I'd cut it at either 3 or 4 inch thick. [emoji106]
  16. I use 0 degrees to give the cleanest cut. It is a fraction slower than 5/10/15. [emoji106]
  17. The excited shout of "daddy!" by my little girl when I get home, followed by a big hug. [emoji106]
  18. Im strictly trees. My only issue is I'll have to get another transit to deliver slabs of milled wood as that's classified as haulage. And I've bought a car for domestic use. Yes you're right about landscaping and groundworks. [emoji106]
  19. Really? I've spent hours on the phone to hmrc, dvla, vosa and many other government departments. They even said I could have my transit Hort registered, red diesel, no mot or tax. Tractor hort or forestry registered. [emoji106]
  20. When you run an established firm you'd expect them to be fully ticketed, and as a contractor you'd be responsible for your own insurance etc I do subbing to random tree firms on a daily/weekly basis, as well as a few private jobs and some small contract works. Unless it's a personal reference from another firm, or just a small outfit, I get asked for tickets. Ironically I always ask to see tickets for people who work for me, as sometimes they just lie about qualifications.
  21. Have you spoken to any local arb types who might have trunks sitting in their yards needing milling? You got some great kit and skills mate, get on the blower. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  22. If you work for any council, large construction firm, rail, electric etc You will have to show in date tickets at every induction. Employers often will want a copy for filing. I show mine about once a month now. [emoji106]
