  1. Lie in til 10 this morning. Then out to the Estate to do a shift at Milling and a raid up. The missus does not work so I’ll take my day of rest when it suits me.
  2. Cheers. Should have said it’s been in about 2 years now.
  3. Yes, I can see built it and plastered could cause issues. I seem to be fortunate in getting seasoned prices for green timber. I also wish to build a nice stock of seasoned oak. I think I’m slowly getting there though. Must have 10 ton milled and stickered now. There was already a Mantle protruding 1.5”So I got my Chain Morticer and chased out a 1.5” but left a good lip on the top and sides. I also used 4 mantle/shelf mounting rods which where secured to the Sandstone Mantle “lip”. Drilled 4 matching holes in the the Oak Mantle and between the missus, my 17 year old lass and myself somehow managed to get it located into position. A tube of Tek7 and then malleted it into place.
  4. Just now I’m asking £100-£125 a cubic foot for nice oak. Just milled this today. 12”x6”x1.2m £200. Gotta round over the edges though, but if a faf but an easy £200. The log owes me £60 and I’ve 70% of it left. 😁
  5. The Stihl one is Logrite as well. At least that’s orange as well. 😁
  6. I’m using the Logrite. Think it’s a 48”? Buy the Woodlands one though, it’s still a Logrite just painted Green. 😁
  7. Who's buying green of the mill mantles? Not 100% sure what you’re asking but if it’s who’s buying green oak for Mantles then I guess this guy. 🤣 I offered the dry Standing Dead at £450 or the Green at £300. After discussing how none of my Green Mantle’s in the house have moved an inch he went with the Green. This 8”x8” Mantle above my Esse Ironheart was A knotty green firewood log. It sees constant heat blasting it day and night. Not budged. I also milled a green Mantle 6”x4” for my daughters bedroom and it’s not moved either. This might be because I’m using the heartwood from much larger logs than the mantle is?
  8. Had a rush order for a Mantle. So milled two the same size. One from a standing dead oak and one from a wee pippy oak. Nice couple of hours milling in the afternoon sun.
  9. You could be kept in solitary confinement with nothing but Mulls drunken weekend retorts as a way to gauge the passing of the days and keep a very accurate passage of time.
  10. I think for people of your generation it’s normal. It’s like you lot see your ineptitude as a badge of honour.
  11. Well, got to use a Branch Logger to get rid of all the Scabs. In two and a half hours Id bagged up fourteen 1-1/4 cube vented bags. Just a wee bit to go tomorrow, maybe another 2 bags.
  12. Seasoned? What Moisture content do you expect to have delivered?
  13. Anything less seems a waste of time.
  14. I normally use them in my own stoves but I’m rapidly running out of room and time to process them. I’m giving them away just now til I can get to a stage I have the time to process them. Soon I’ll be burning the lot. 😁
  15. Made a finish to the 6m long Spruce Logs today. Two and a half days and 43 Logs Milled into 6”x6” beams. Ended up with 60x6x1”x5.7m boards. 35x1” waney boards as well. The Scabs where a good 1/3rd more than this at the end.
  16. Thanks Stubby, I've got as much Oak as I can handle just now.
  17. We do.
  18. Back on the Norway Spruce for my Log Cabin Build. Late start today but managed to get 14 x 6" x 6" x 5.7m Beams knocked out. I had initially planned on just cutting the Beams and leaving a load of waste for firewood but ended up cutting 1" Waney boards and 6"x1" Boards as well. More time consuming but seemed a shame to waste the timber. Will either sell them or use them on my Drying shed whenever I get around to that.
  19. The Estate behind me has a few plantations. He says the rules have changed and he now needs a felling licence for sub 4” which he says is a huge pain. I might have picked him up wrong though, I’ll ask.
  20. What kind of Strawman reply is that? Anyway, let’s not clutter up this thread any further. It’s clear you’re itching for the argument you ran through in the shower this morning but I’ve better things to do today.
  21. You knew you’d be in for it? Good grief, I replied in a respectful way which I suspect is not what you where hoping for but I guess you had your retort already planned out so you had to went with it anyway. My point stands though, you have an opinion that differs from mine. You’ve voiced that a few times now. But that’s ok, since it’s your opinion, but according to you I’m not allowed a differing opinion from those who try to force their opinion on a sizeable portion of the global population. Your argument is nonsensical.
  22. That’s generally how things work. You clearly think my opinion is wrong. Why is it ok for you to think my opinion is wrong but I’m not allowed to think others are not? I’m more than happy to people to have other opinions though, the big difference is I’m not trying to force my will on those people.
  23. I’m certainly no expert, mind. The Big Oil Companies would love to exploit our reserves but I think the current politics and uncertainty of the UK is very off-putting. No such issues over in Norway and they’re running flat out opening new fields and re-developing old ones. We’ve never been so busy and have been hiring like crazy. The Big players like BP and ConocoPhillips are investing huge amounts. The British Government has always been keen to down play what reserves we have in predominantly Scottish Waters due to independence fears. As long as that still hangs over our heads I can’t see there being any real investment in the O&G fields. If the SNP get independence I can’t see that being a positive sign for the Operators either, not with the SNPs tax tax tax mindset.
  24. At your age it’s little wonder you have a weak D. 🤣
  25. I feel you’ve started some sort of fan fiction gay porn here. I can see why you’re called the Ratman. You’re like a Rat up his proverbial drainpipe.
