1. Some nice bits of kit there, i never really heard or saw deutz fehr tractors before I went to lamma'16 but sure them there got in a couple and had a good look around they look like an impressive machine, well built and I think there quite a cool looking tractor, if I was to get a new large tractor id definitely consider them
2. Anyone been importing any wood in lately and do you think if Britain leaves the e.u it will have on effect on price etc, I for one hope they try and limit foreign imports and focus on selling our own wood aswell as by limiting imports it surely limits the risk of importing diseases
3. Hows the 480 getting on gdh?? Do you have your processor's in daily use or do you just process as when you newd to, to cover orders??
4. After a few days now, has the water cleared if so what the extent of the damage and is any off it salvageable, I hope for you you it is mate!!
5. well with the last few days getting colder and its meant to be cold for the next week hopefully we will all shift some wood, quite a hard frost this morning and its still -3 now, that's bitter for us southern lads haha, although I do like the cold
6. last couple of days when log splitting I keep singing david bowie - fame and life on mars. I normally sing what ever I listen to tbh so normally I sing a lot of pink Floyd, metallica, led zeppelin etc etc e.g all the greats;)
7. Hada look on ebay, theres two hakki pilke 1x37 that wrlere around the 6k mark and a couple of 1x42 that were under 10k. Are they any good as they are quite abit cheaper, then theres a tajfun 500 joy that you can buy brand new for 13k so that may be worth looking at?? Ive never dealth with palax machine so I cant comment on what their like but I saw some vids on you tube and I would still prefer tajfun and hakki pilke over them just looking on vids.
8. The ground will be moist clay soil. Its all over grown with bramble and hasnt been disturbed sine weve been here, and probably been untouched before then. As I looked though theres already quite a few silver birch and ash sappling growing through and above the bramble, so they must be around 7-10 ft in height with diameters of probably 2" but this was looking from a distance.
9. Yh the persistent rain will always sloy and grind you down during the days work, we had some real heavy wind and sideways rain, yards full of mud slop and puddles again, meant to get abit colder, hoping for some hard frosts to one sell more wood and two: harden the ground up
10. About to go to yard and make a start, havnt done many logs in the last few days as been busy with other stuff and it has been abit of rain about. Got aload of oak, sweet chesnut, pine, abit of willow and loads of poplar to split still!
11.
Hi Laurie. Its not a definate weather ill plant the woodland or not but its definitely something im really interested in doing its just a case of time and weather or not its worthwhile as there are other avenues we could go down to utilise the area. As for you what sort of woodland do you have and what sorta trees are you thinking of planting??

12. The big question is whas wgat burnout deliberate. Sad sight to see.
13. Just before we started although qe still cut our own for our fire, I remember it probably being the first te I started using axes and started chopping wood (I was 12). What I definitely remember is there being a few days off school!!
14. When I mean best I mean most economically viable so If im getting 1/2nd year sapling I dont really want to be paying top dollar even if the quality good, but I dont want a load of rubbish that will die so looking for a hapoy medium. To think I may be thinking og getting say 1000 plants Its on more of a commercial scale,
15. I havnt used them but they are an outlet for delamore yound plants who are suppliers of plug plants, for bedding and perennial plants, ( I and mainly me nan before me have been a customer since the early 80's) so im guessing they wouldnt supply commercial trees but ill search them up!!
16. Who have you guys used when it comes to buying in young saplings. For the small 60-80cm plants whats a good price and also wheres the best place to buy the shelters/guards from.looked at a few on the internet and alba trees stands out as the most professional one so far
17. Me dad use to buy and sell xmas trees and did ok at it, he was doing it and delivering them when there weren't many people doing trees and hardly anyone delivered. But I think now days everyone's at it and the cost to buy in means there's not much monwy in it. Funny enough he always wanted to grow them and either cut to his own orders or sell straight to nurseries etc. Its probably something he would consider byt would want more than one acre to do it on. His plan was to do in on one of our feilds which is 25acres. As for me idxprefer to grow timber than axas trees, but could alwats look to do both
18. That just gave me a thought for a question for you guys. Im guessing some of you on here have been in the log trade for many years. What year comws to mind when I ask "What was your best log selling year?". Weve only been going for about 4 years and this winter (2015/16) is probably our best in sales but we expected to do abit better especially when rhey were saying last autum that this wintwr was going to be the coldest in 50 year!!
19. as for trailers i saw some decent old massey ferguson 5 and 6ton trailers for sale at around the 2k mark. any one know if there a good make or any recomendations, also a few marston trailers about but dont like wooden bodies prefer solid metal
20. And has uprated leaf springs so can take anit of extra weight, and with it being a mix if hard and soft wood and fully dry soft weighs hardly anything it looks heavier than what it is
21. Shes got a body just under 15ft in length
22. Thats great advice cheers mate. I was thinking about the nursery route as I grow beeding plants and perennials from seed/plug and sell on, also done a few shrubs but mostly bought them in. With alot of landscaping now envolving easy maintenance, I cant think of any other trees that fit the bill than silver birch, and if you havnt guessed silver birch is probably my favourite tree, it would also tie in with my brother whos going into landscaping.the only other idea would be are there any nurseries etc that would want to work with me to set it up. I would point out the land isnt mine its me nans, and me dads running it but uli mentioned the idea and he said go out and see what you can find out. All that aside id still want a woodland for it being a woodland there dosnt necessarily need to be a earner ftom it as my 1st simple goal would be to turn a waste bit of land into something tidy and useful be it what id like to see happen which is it become an investment that will pay in the future or it be somewhere to walk the dogs!!
23. Nahh haha sorry lads, tried everything but nothing has worked so sorta gave up And we do get some wood for free other wood is from out farm through fallen trees and when we did some coppicing and other wood we buy in
24. Nice mate very nice!!!, wouldnt mind seeing a few more picsofthe beauty. What sort of production out put can it do
