  1. Same as me when it comes to tree's purely a hobby.. keep lookin at getting a bigger chipper so I can do more of it, but not sure its a good idea as every time I do one I can hardly walk for a day or two due to back trouble... perhaps I'll stick to the odd one and reading about a tree mans life on here.... and Utube....
  2. I'm usually sat in front of the fire in Winter so I'm not as bothered about that..
  3. Clitheroe, nice up there ain't it.. I used to occasionally visit the auction up there, not sure if its still goin.. was years ago when I last went..
  4. Under my avatar is a bit of info.. tells anyone who;s interested I'm from Bolton.. and your from Lancashire..... which part...
  5. No I'm not.. sheepshaggin ain't my thing...
  6. Not much news about is there lads.. which is bad for me as I like to worry about somethin at least.. anyways i was thinking about the change of weather today as its raining again thank god.. Still, I've had a road to Damascus moment this summer about climate change.. realized how dangerous this climate change is gonna be goin forward.. for years a related topic was about the arctic shrinking, never gave that much thought till this summer. but then I realized if it does shrink its gonna effect the jet stream.. somethin I never considered before. Anyways the gist being if the arctic shrinks then we're gonna get more extreme summers like this one on a regular basis. Because the arctic provides the cold that creates the weather when it bumps into the warm air from the South.. if the Arctic shrinks in any meaningful way then the jet stream is gonna stay further North.. Keeping us in a heatwave for months on end.. there, now I'm happy, got something to worry about again..
  7. hope it works out for you Fellrunner.. whats needed is the right attitude as much as anything else.. make it a goal and you'll get there.. I'm sure of it.. now about this fell running, i was wild camping in the Lakes a couple of weeks back and every half hr through the night a bunch of runners would pass by heading up the hills.. looked like somethin i'd of loved to do in my younger days.. though I noticed quite a few of em were getting on a bit.. anyways set me off on my own training routine, been doin a bit of walking' running to get myself ready for a practice run on my own one day.. perhaps a run up Snowdon..
  8. Gas and coal, if we must then carbon capture the pollution.. fkin about pretending forests can power power stations is just annoying. like someone said, its not about the economics its about finding a way to improve on the stats that say we're reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.. As it happens the utility companies are in the process of hooking up with our European suppliers with connectors. They will be able to use electric produced in Europe to support any expected shortfall over here.. I'm sure that makes more sense than raping the forests of North America just to bend some stats in our favour.. Not to mention, what happens if America builds a few wood powered power stations.. Drax can wave goodbye to any wood coming out of there in an eyeblink.. idiots..
  9. I'm not particularly fussed about pricing jobs by inflation, just found it interesting to see how it changed as to be honest, it's something I never thought about before. the vid doesn't exactly explain how to price a job through inflation it explains exponential growth.. its interesting in its own right.. if you watch it all you'll understand how and why prices rise as they do. which brings me on to why everyone should watch it. and why its important to put your prices up every now and then..
  10. I'm thinking of both. or should that be spitting axe and splitting maul.. all depends on the wood your chopping.. easy wood an axe will do, mangy crap a maul.. I have a dozen different axes and mauls and they each work as good as the next if I'm fit that day.... and thats what really separates one from the other. whether your in shape when you chop your logs..
  11. If you want to work out how to price a job by inflation, then you might find this vid useful.. deals in exponential growth.. its what most businesses use and governments for that matter..
  12. yea very funny, the axe I have is a double bit re-purposed axe by none other than Buckinbillyray Smith.. He gets em how he can, car boots included.. mine cost a lot more than any brand new axe I can think of and its likely it came from a car boot.. So carry on, keep laughing.. By the way, cuts wood as good as or better than any new axe out there.. Numpties.
  13. been doin it for years, just spread the clipping out thin and wide and mow over em with a mulching mower.. then put bag on to pick up if you have to.. blow the rest inside the hedge for best results...
  14. You contribute what you fancy talkin about and I'll say what whant I to say... And no I don't remember reading your bit about different handles.... or I vaguely remembered and perhaps its why I mentioned weights of heads as somethin else to consider..Don't remember anyone mentioning that.. Anyways, point being most of these axes are much of a muchness in my opinion.
  15. A sharp piece of metal at the end of a shaft.. can't get any simpler.. whats more important is the weight and how that suits the user.. can't see the point of spending good money on a splitting axe/maul unless you intend to hang it on the wall as an ornament.. other things to consider is the handle, do you prefer wood or fiberglass.. anyways, best visit the car boot get a handful of different ones over the months and see which one suits..
  16. car boot on sundays, pick up a few cheap axes to chop wood with.. I doubt one splitting axe is much better than any other..
  17. you could knock your own version up and see if they sell.. I might be tempted to put longer tracks on it though for extra stability.. perhaps include a tow ball on for an extra gimmick to tow around a trailer on site.. theres always those who want the better bigger shinier version.. might not sell a great deal but would look pretty cool in the catalogue..
  18. you might get more than extra for some of your Stirling if your there come the winter.. you might get to see some planes dropping some bombs round abouts..
  19. I didn't exactly say altruism, but maybe self interest.. price too high and demand drops, price to low and Saudi coffers empty.. Its in their interests to keep the price just right.. or sometimes they do lower to help us out.. Take Putins invasion of the Crimea, funny how the price of oil nosedived soon after.. a nod and wink from the States and oversupply from the Saudi's.. pissed Putin right off. What with his talk of rebuilding his military capabilities with his oil revenues.. Had to put that off hasn't he..
  20. Speaking of good news... Erdogan is in the shit, Lira dropping like a stone.. Inflation at 16 percent.. the country beginning to go to the dogs.. Well done Trump for bringing this tit to his knees.. If this carries on maybe the next military coup might have more success...
  21. I don't know why people keep havin a go at Saudi Arabia, for all their social backwardsness they at least have an interest in keeping the oil price stable.. Over the years if they wanted to they could turn off the taps and send every country in the world into economic ruin.. be grateful they have a monarchy that has kept things in check.. and helped out the West when they had to.. When it comes to supporting ISIS its more a case of private citizens doin that not government institutions, lest we're talking Syria.. and thats to do with their hatred of Iranian Shia's..
  22. So, your about the chop a tree down, you've done hundreds just like like it.. You consider the risks to minimum.. you've never had a problem doin tree' like this before.. Something goes wrong and you end up injured. Havin considered the risks as the law demands you do, not to mention its something you do every time you climb a tree no matter the law.. Then how do you stand legally.. You done what the law demands, not that it needs demanding mind.. I'd say any insurgence company that tries to stiff you will be the ones ending up in court if they attempt to flea fk you...
  23. I thought I better say somethin before people began asking were I was again..
