  1. This. Just put the beef in the oven, and just having a winter warmer of a Glengoyne 60% cask strength Then taking the dog out in the sideways rain
  2. You're right.... Your brother-in-law is wrong and you have my permission to slap him around the face and demand a brew https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driver-cpc-exemptions-examples It's pretty cut & dry: If you're employed as a tree surgeon that just so happens to have a license that enables you to drive a 7.5t lorry. That lorry is used to carry trade tools and materials for your course of work, you might also carry the climber and groundsman.....
  3. I'm no halfwit but only now, at 34, I've just found my academic mind. At school / college............struggled with making sense of what I was supposed to be doing, so I got drunk, chased girls, and generally just had a good time. The last thing I want to do now is blow £2.5k on the first year of a degree to find I've made a bad decision by running before I could walk, hence my initial posed question. I spoke to Treelife today, and Keely(?) advised that the level 4 would be difficult without experience within the industry, as Betula pointed out — I'm a warehouse manager at present without any experience in arboriculture — so I'm thinking I need to take a step back from my five year plan, work on getting my foot in and revisit education in a year or so, but there is that nagging imp on my shoulder that is saying "you're 34! If you don't crack on soon you'll have to retire" — the little sod! I've had positive feedback from a local forestry consultancy firm that has offered some work experience when I complete my RFS/ABC level 2 in July. In the meantime, I recently got my CS30/31, and my CS38 is in Jan. A guy from my current course is taking me out for a rec. climb next week, and I'm applying for jobs here and there. It's just an uphill struggle at the moment. Every time I think I have it straight in my head a new obstacle rears up and forces me to change the outlook, the biggest of which is my girlfriend dropping a positive pregnancy test on my desk.... So the new plan; Complete my RFS level 2 Be an awesome dad to first child Find work & experience in Arb through 2016/17 Enrol and complete the level 4 in 2017 Enrol and complete the level 6 in 2018 Be happy and finally get job satisfaction Simple...
  4. Thank you all. I was foolishly hoping some might say, "it'll be fine", but I really knew the answer already to be honest. 😳 I'll start looking at some intermediary courses, and get the ball rolling.
  5. I'm currently studying the RFS level 2 with Myerscough and looking at furthering my academics and have a couple of questions; What next? Ultimately I want to reach a level 6+ qualification and I'm looking at the FdSc with Mysercough as my next step, but I'm unsure if the jump from level 2 to a level 5 qual. is really the correct jump to take - am I trying to run before I can walk? Other options? The FdSc seems the most viable for me, but what other options do you recommend I might look at pursuing? Cheers in advance boyses/girlses.
  6. I like your standpoint, I used to have it.... I need to find it again.
  7. I used to rescue porno's from hedges as a lad.... don't get that any more, bloody interwebs!
  8. POV cameras aren't CCTV, ergo. no ruling on signage As my understanding; You have the right to record / photograph virtually anything and anyone, in a public place — within moral reasoning obviously . Especially if the interest of public safety.
  9. A very intelligent dude, really like his stage stuff, and he get a lil Ben Folds in this:thumbup:
  10. Well, at least she didn't confuse it for Dracula's guise and squish it. Still, good to see thoughtful folk about
  11. Could try The Pallet Network. I think tooles transport is your nearest member; Toolestransport.co.uk
  12. I used to use sanitary towels under my helmet / goggles when I raced motocross. Low profile, super absorbent, and keeps the sweat at bay — you do get funny looks when it's stuck to your head though Edit; this was before the days of Sweathawgs - gotta take a look at those
  13. Just put my lamb in the oven, stuffed with rosemary and garlic...
  14. Done my college work for the day... Now beer and quality time with the better half... 🍺🍺 Enjoy yourself plogs
  15. Confidence outweighs ability.... the older I get the more I understand it
  16. Glad I found this thread, it's good to know even the seasoned climbers can have their moments. I'm due to start my cs38 in January and I'm full if apprehension as I don't actually know how I am with heights. I went out with a mate and blakes hitched up a pine to a 30foot ish anchor point 3 or 4 times and felt uncomfortable, but not fearful. So I've laid my initial fear to rest and eager to crack on in Jan.
  17. Bracing standards are outlined in BS3998, which to my knowledge doesn't cover noninvasive as it's relatively new. I'd say removal and install a cobra system anyway, but I'm far from experienced in the matter. Is the union in good shape and just bracing as precautionary?
  18. Just because they're in public sector uniform doesn't make them exempt from ridicule. Someone bodging a job is bodging, whatever hat they wear. 😉
