  1. I did say it was a 60cc and I was only told it needs to be <15", so all good.
  2. I'm getting the impression that the employer wants common sense..... If only that was a GCSE..... Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
  3. Bar tip, aye. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
  4. At 34 years old, I guess I'm not at your typical age for a new arborist, but it is something that has always been somewhat of a reverie for me, yet a concern for the future has prevented me from pursuing this career path earlier. Now I am in a position to know where I want to go and how I need to get there, and I believe that by volunteering my time to a company I can gain the valuable experience to aid me in my new career path. In return I can offer you, free of charge; my desire to learn, a strong work ethic, and enthusiasm. My current situation lies with me undertaking the RFS level 2 certificate in arboriculture, and I am due to complete my CS30/31 in October, with a hope to complete my aerial certs sometime in 2016. I'm based near Kettering in Northamptonshire, but I'm willing to travel a reasonable distance to help out for the experience. I'm working a full time job that's mid-afternoon into nights so my time is limited to mornings & early afternoon, but if you need a lackey for an odd day here or there, drop me a PM. I by no means want to take anything away from the guys/gals looking for & needing work, I just want to be proactive and build up some experience and gain some rapport within the local industry.
  5. Cheers for that Shavey, I am leaning toward the Sugihara 15" 10 tooth... Dunno why but I'm a sucker for Japanese craft. If i'm not comfortable with the balance of the 15" bar it's just for the CS cert so no biggy
  6. Nice one, thanks guys. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
  7. Similar thoughts are radiating in my noggin too buddy... Sod it, the path is paved now, and my OH is happy that I'm finally doing something about it.... that's worth it's weight in gold for me. I just hope I can get through the RFS course... it's more of a effort than I originally anticipated....
  8. Hey guys, I just took ownership of an 18" Dolmer 6100 from Shavey - great guy to deal with btw Now, I'm starting my journey into arboriculture and I'm taking my cs30/31 at the end of Oct... I'd like to use the Dolmer for the course but the max. guide bar I can use is 15" — pretty standard as far as I can see — otherwise it's use the colleges own. Is it possible to fit the smaller bar & chain? If so, is it just a case of gauge and pitch? Any recommendations on where to get them, and are there shared parts with Husky / Stihl? Kev
  9. I guess I'll use this as my introduction as well. I'm making the first steps into aboriculture at 34 in the Midlands. Something I've wanted to do for a long time (it wasn't until my missus of 13 years said "you've wanted to since I've known you." that it finally sunk in.). So I've been in the shadows on here for a few weeks. I've enrolled to do my CS30/31 at the end of Oct. I've got a Fischer Price my first Chainsaw on it's way... randomly from Shavey, after speaking with him on the blower. The main point of the post however is, wanting to know more than just how to hack the woody buggers down, I'm undertaking the [title] course with Myerscough, and just wondered if anyone else on here was in the same academic year... or anyone else that may have already completed it and how they've progressed... Apparently while sampling soil, I may as well dig over the veg patch at the weekend... Kev.
  10. The whole book thing keeps me second guessing myself... The Only guy I know who I'd trust to help me id has moved to Glasgow, 340 miles away Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
  11. I'm new to the whole foraging edibles this year, but yesterday i came across three fungi while walking the dog. A horse shroom, champignons, and some dodgy yellow stainers that i mistook for young field shrooms... Glad i did the stem check with those yellow buggers
  12. Try something different and go for epoxy with a glow in the dark pigment?
  13. That's pretty spooky. Changing my career from warehouse manager that's be tolling my sanity for too long. Worried about the bills, for myself, my fiancée and pup. a few weeks until i do my CS30/31. Also enrolled on to the RFS level 2 on Monday. Sounds like we on a very similar path dude. This thread has helped put to rest some the apprehension. Good luck to you.
