  1. Just finished work & a relaxing ale... foggy noggin that makes a lot more sense. lvl 6 & consultancy is the long term plan and final aim for me - albeit a possibly naive plan, but you've got have goals, right?
  2. This makes me a sad little camper I was really hoping to go onto an on-line level 4 after my current level 2 with Myerscough.... time for a (another) rethink
  3. I'm 34 and stuck in a warehouse managing a team... pays bloody well, but job satisfaction is nil.... I'm going balls deep into this arb malarky with my CS 30/31 completed ,CS38 starts next week, and currently studying for my on-line level 2 arb course while getting a few odd days work experience here and there locally. I am finding it hard to find to gain the experience as often as I'd like (a day every week or two would be ideal), or an advertised position where I can earn enough to provide for myself, and expectant girlfriend (expecting a baby, not I'm expecting a girlfriend! ) — I find arborists / tree surgeons seem comparatively really underpaid. I'd say, get your basic tickets and go from there - have you asked yourself what you want to be doing in the next five, ten years? That will help plot your path and hopefully realise your goals a little better.
  4. Surely if that's on the required criteria it should be taught. If it's not then it shouldn't be used in a failing point.... Either the assessor or instructor needs reassessing....
  5. What length eye to eye should I be looking at for a distel or swabish?
  6. The pulley's for one handed operation, without it I would need to pull the slack with one hand and slide the prussik with the other.... or have I missed something I realised the lanyard was running the wrong side of the pulley, oops I knew something was amiss. that's just hidden by the fisherman's tail - I hope I wouldn't be that daft...
  7. Loving the vids dude. There's one quote that has really helped me settle a shoulder imp for me; at 34 and starting my career change / leap, it's always good to hear of late bloomers.
  8. So my CS38 is in just over a week and I've just taking delivery of my gear so obviously decided to a play. I know I'll learn in the course, have to tie and retie everything , and potentially do away with the pulley, but after some searching I've not really cleared whether I'm right with this because there are so many guides, videos and images that vary slightly. It all seems good from what I can tell, I'm just getting over excited

    Hello!

Always the same, free things pop up the day after I receive my order. Oh, the woes of a bearded bald man
  10. You'll be fine dude, my CS38 is in just over a week, and I'm nervous but mine for the actual climbing - the knots I have dialled I was bricking it doing my CS30/31 - I had no idea what to expect but as stihl said, the instructor is there to help. I've practised the basic knots on some old para cord for a couple of nights and it's surprising how quickly you can remember them. climbing ropes makes the whole tying process a lot easier.
  11. Thanks for the info all, much appreciated. I'll leave all the extra stuff for now that will essentially just be for the cs38, I'm sure the centres equipment will suffice for that, but worth noting. I was penning on making the lanyard from my main line and the 3m length of boa, so I should be good on that front.
  12. Cheers guys, enjoy your new year celebrations 🎉
  13. Sorted? I'm thinking spikes and throwline in the future. I'm only doing my cs38 in mid-jan, and as I have no arb job lined up as yet, I'll just be rec climbing and gaining experience for a while
  14. Just piecing together a (very) basic starter kit for the new year with a budget of around £400 - does this look a reasonable starting point? I've just used the tree hog as a marker until I try some harnesses out to give me an idea on my budget for now. Any recommendations, anything missed, swap-outs?
  15. I use the ghost S, (essentially ghost 3) all the reviews I read were hot on it. They are good, but in my experience their colour tone is a bit weird and the mic is shocking for wind noise.
  16. I did the same, SIP innovations, said used twice, and looked it too. Half the price.
  17. I think you know who that customer will use and recommend... Sounds like the guy is desperate for the work.... you have to wonder why... These types are in all walks of life. take it and keep doing what you're doing.
  18. Glad I was wasn't the only one to exclaim the issue to my missus, who promptly continued to look at Facebook
  19. I'm not sure why the measley amount goes to children in need. I'm not a saying that it's not a worthy cause, but I think being country file, the charity should be conservation and I can't help thinking children in need is used simply to sell more...
  20. My mate used a plastic bag and hair band for the best part of eleven months - various different brands, but Lidl bags lasted the longest....
  21. I generally prefer second hand books, they already have their character. Abe books is usually my first port of call
