  1. While I'm not really putting much thought into becoming a sole trader, as I'm weighing up end goals and paths to take, this ignites a fire
  2. Thinking of the same same route, but age isn't on my side. I'm not even in the industry yet at 34 , but thinking around 5 - 10 years before I kick it behind a desk and more formal education
  3. My first experience with a distel wasn't a pleasurable one... Didn't bite on my lanyard, thankfully was still on my main line I'll be having a go with knut or swabish me thinks. I'll leave the VT until I have a few more climbing hours
  4. Crack on. You said yourself the job can go on without them.
  5. I only just put two and two together - "rosey" It was a long shift at work
  6. I passed the September after they changed the law... 😞
  7. I'll have to look into it, the b+e is something like £500, so not much in it at all
  8. I sent them an email last week regarding doing a bit of experience and was told they were having a reshuffle. May have to just fully apply properly. Thanks for that rosey. I was thinking it would be worth getting the trailer license as my next call. I might have to leave the 7.5t licence for now, I imagine it's a good jump in price and the 38 has broken me
  9. I passed my CS38 on Tuesday, and although I would love to just jump straight into the 39 and get it done, am I going to be more employable / benefit more from getting my B+E license? I think I know the answer already, but just wanted some opinions - maybe even some other ideas or options..
  10. Pre-ordered mine last night, looking forward to September. NY Times article on the book and author here
  11. The main line system seemed to work well with 2 oval biners, although the 13mm gecko isn't freely moving and fair leading even at 20' up, but still was easier and more efficient than a prussik / blakes, especially on descent. I was having issues with the lanyard though, with the distel and prussik not biting without a little encouragement - obviously caught me out at first and doesn't fill me with confidence . I wonder if it's the cheap ISC camp pulley as I never had the issue with the pinto. Anyone else experienced it?
  12. I guess it must be the same system as what I'm doing with myerscough: The portfolio is just the individual tasks you do through the term grouped into one document. That's what is externally assessed.
  13. Between Leicester and Northampton
  14. I did nearly have "sod it" moment on a zig-zag when I ordered - but a swift look at the bank balance swayed me back I'll have a shift around tomorrow and see what I can improve without melting the bankcard again - should be a nice day and I've been wanting to get up this ash since I was a kid
  15. It's a tight squeeze in there , fat ole cord
  16. That's the fella R Mac, auto correct loveliness. Ahh, i did wonder Joe, my instructor said that I did... I suppose it won't hurt being there though
  17. Thanks stihlmadasever, I do have another oval and I'll stick on a VT and see how it looks. I guess I could move the split eye krab down to the bridge to remove any chance of founding the hitch too..? I'll order some smaller friction cord next week 👍
  18. Cheers buddy, it's pretty much what I was thinking... Hopefully there's a way to make it work.. Another play tomorrow while it rains
  19. Excuse my noobishness, but I just wanted someone to check over my new pulley set-up before I go scramble around a tree. Just got a couple of eye to eye silver streaks to make up some distel hitches and nabbed a cheap ISC pulley to tend slack on the lanyard while moving my pinto to the main line. I'm a little unsure about it all as the lanyard pulley seems very tight. I know you use a spacer on the pinto to stop it compressing, is this the same for ISC also? (should have got a swing cheek) The main line system with the pinto — is there anything particularly wrong with it? Other than maybe another wrap on the distel. With the eyes either side of both pulleys, they just seems very wide on the biners and I'm worried they could be loaded wrong?
  20. In a similar situation dude, I know what I need to take home to "break even", but struggling to find anything close enough. I'd say apply anyway and see how it goes. If anything, it's giving you interview experience so you'll be better prepared for the interview you want to nail.
  21. I got one with my climbing kit order from FR jones. 'simon' now goes with me everywhere on my keys
  22. Great job Steve on organising and sorting it all! Chuffed I actually won something

My currently planned route is ; basic tickets (CS 30/31, 38, 39, and chipper et.al) lvl 2 ABC/RFS with Myerscough work experience with local arbs That's where I'm at now, and it's going well so far. CS38 this coming week, CS39 will be booked thereafter with the other certs filling in the gaps while I get experience over the next year or so. full time work within arb. undertake the lvl 4 in sept 2017. look at and research the lvl6. live happily ever after. Ultimately I'm aiming for surveying & consultancy though, so my end goal may differ from the OP's — but even the lvl 2 so far has been an eye opener.
