  1. If its as termination knots then double figure 8 on mainline is fine but a bit bulky on the lanyard. What hitch are you using to ascend on and as lanyard adjuster?
  2. I wonder if spud'd will be in the next updated dictionary...
  3. F##@ me....i give up Please be careful
  4. If a rope is retired then its retired for a reason, usually because its deemed unsafe by loler inspector,so even though hes-as you say- "checking it " by running it through his hands he could very well miss a serious problem as he's no experience with arborist rope. Its great to read books and watch youtube videos but the only way to climb as safely as possible is to have the proper equipment, and climb low and slow with an experienced climber to there too help you out. What you chose to do is up to you but to offer out that advice was beyond reckless,no offence but you dont sound too experienced yourself. The phrase" learn to walk before you run "springs too mind. I dont mean to offend you but you should think a little harder before you offer advice mate
  5. Are you really advising a non experienced tree climber to go up a 90 foot tree using a retired partially severed rope...ffs!!!! You need your head examined pal,so does he if he takes your advice. Death or glory?...it would seem death is the likely outcome
  6. Tell him to bring a midge net....best advice he'll get if he's coming to Scotland..period
  7. If you have no experience climbing trees you shouldnt be going up 90 odd foot to get your quadchopper thingy,do youself a favour, get a local tree surgeon to get it for you then learn to fly your toy better to avoid trees. In not being a dick here but a 90 foot climb and a novice climber who has no idea of the inherant dangers involved, sounds too me like a recipe for disaster.
  8. Learning to weld is pretty easy, especially mig welding where all your doing is holding a gun with a rod coming through it into metal.Getting good at welding takes time and experience though.
  9. Two Wentworth elms, previously though to have been extinct in the UK, have been found in Holyroodhouse Palace grounds in Edinburgh. Dr Max Coleman of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh identified them and said "It is very likely these rare elms survived because Edinburgh city council have been removing diseased elms since the 1980's.
  10. Years ago id been accepted to go too Oz,have relatives in Newcastle-New South Wales ,but i found excuses not too go,if im being honest i shat it and looked for reasons too stay in Scotland, the great weather etc haha I dont regret it but sometimes i wonder what if. Some are brave enough or take the leap for the benefit of there family,i was just a young guy. Good luck too anyone who emigrates. As for you Reg im glad you've found a home and you and your family have made it a success..good on you mate
  11. Zubat 330mm
  12. I have the vizor on my petzl vertex vent and have sordin ear defenders with no issues,i take my eardefenders off when im climbing and use earplugs. Im not aware if any spacers for the vizor either.my advice would be get better eardefenders or use plugs
  13. Also known as daaawgs if u live across the pond lol
  14. Doesnt count if she's sleepin you know...
  15. Not one of you lying toerags has given the honest answer...come on...you wank off dont you..
  16. After its shed all leaves id say...or better yet fell the bastard...i hate limes...epicormic sproutin...furball pieces of sh@#
  17. Really dont see the point in these types of combi cans,i had a stihl one, same thing-nozzles broke, combi spanner fell out-utter crap.I bought an oregon one,no frills just a basic combi can, still got it,still in great nick oh and its see through which i prefer
  18. Good point mate,i think the newer sequoia's have adjustable bridges
  19. Beautiful tree's,first time i saw this picture i thought it was a piss take fake...
  20. Never seen or heard of this problem but perhaps putting and extention on your bridge to your climbing rope like a long prussik loop or taped sling might help you stay more upright
  21. Ive tried a protos on and it just didnt feel right for me. Everyones aware of the eardefenders lacking in proper protection but it depends how it feels when its on your head.It seems to be a marmite kind of lid-folks either love it or hate it. Sorry i cant be more helpful mate
  22. Huskys 80-90 quid cheaper, and if its just for hedge work, do you really need the extra grunt the 211 gives...probably not joe.
  23. Ive used a 211,jwas just a couple of months old with a 14"bar,didnt like the power to weight ratio.I81/180 are great little saws defo recommend an older 180. To each his own i suppose
  24. Yeah im on my 2nd tank of fuel and its pickin up now. From what ive been told by others on this forum its a great little saw for odd jobs, small fells, logs, hedges etc Think its pretty much in comparison to the stihl 181 but 60 notes cheaper. Search for the thread "husky 135" by myself for other guys contributions
  25. Just checked my trousers...class 1:blushing: I aint buying more trousers.. Id still say class 2 for better safety though
