  1. As a person who works for my LA im unhappy too say that like other council's,mine is also run by officious desk jockies who prioritise justifying there own jobs and cutting back on services that need improved. The guys and gals on the front line get the **** end of the stick and joe public pay more for less... Too quote clint eastwood its a clusterf#@k
  2. If thats the case then its pretty poor, those neighbours must have done something too piss those guys off though..ive thought the same thing more than a couple of times but never had the minerals to do it.
  3. Was this story neighbourly gossip or do you know this for a fact...? It could be that these"so called tree surgeons"had an arrangement to drop off cuttings at the property.
  4. Getting a new business off the ground up and running take a hell of a lot of work,be prepared to have no time for yourself nevermind your family plus all the stresses that go with it. Ive recently seen a good mate start his own venture and it looks bloody hard.I have the utmost respect for anyone who decides too take the leap and start up there own business so go into it with your eyes open and be prepared to work your bollocks off. If your confident in your capabilities go for it but make sure your family know the risks and are prepared to back you no matter what happens. Good luck mate
  5. Yes it can
  6. Not thst im aware of but you could search online in the big arb suppliers-frjonesandson,honey brothers, skyland equipment, buxtons etc.Good luck
  7. Dont think anyone stocks them in the UK,ive only seen them on treestuff.com in the states im afraid
  8. So pass or fail is entirely at the discression/opinion of the individual inspector rather than an industry standard ?
  9. Dmm have a product out called the captain throwing hook for traversing.Give yourself a bit of time to get used to climbing and all that comes with it.It does get easier with experience and you will get ideas for little homemade toys/gadgets that help older climbers out that struggle with certain things-for example i cant through worth a f#@!. So i get round this by using ladders, extension poles or just good old fashioned throwing ahead. If its a big tree i get one of the lads to chuck the throwline up.
  10. Great thread mate cheers enjoy yur beer
  11. I 2nd that train of thought, arb specialist inspector always
  12. Try a knut hitch,it runs better than a distel which i found locked up,espescially in the wet.Zigzag is fantastic btw:thumbup:
  13. Climber in the states died a few months back, the bridge on his harness gave out while he was ascending. It was reported his "saddle"was ten years old.
  14. Would lolering your own equipment not be a conflict of interests?
  15. I would think if its an accident due to failure of equipment then insurers would deem proof of loler records a must, before payout. But then its just guess work really-who knows what insurers would deem equipment failure
  16. Woooft...me likey...is that wrong???
  17. Whats wrong with pink saws... Doesnt mean your poofy ya know lol
  18. If you dont want too work in the industry then a lantra or NPTC course wouldnt really suit you as its a lot of health and safety, rules and regulations etc. All proffesional training bodies have course curriculam that they have to adhere too in order to award candidates the qualification so id say you would be better off going to a local tree surgeon or someone else you who uses chainsaws and ask for a lesson, you could offer payment or a free days labour draggin brash in return for a chainsaw tutorial. The only problem with this is the longer we use the saw we get bad habits and some of these may be passed on to you unintentionally. Youtube is good for looking at how to use a chainsaw but real world tutorige is best imo. I wouldnt touch windblow until you've got your basic saw skills on point. Good luck mate and be careful
  19. I completly sympathise but i have my personal kit lolered without exception and with this in mind-my stein cambium saver failed as the stiching at one of the rings had started to frey,i didnt notice it even doing weekly checks. If the loler hadnt highlighted it i may have had a sore one. I think it should be down to the individual whether they want a loler inspection or not, espescially as it cost me nearly 90 quid.Being a tight arsed scotsman thats hard too take
  20. Thuja plicata,western red cedar.
  21. Our mechanic changed the clutch so id say, going by his history, the clutch and needle bearing would be fine and genuine stihl parts. The old clutch was scrapped as one of the springs had snapped. I ll check the guidebar nose sprocket for play tomorrow,i only checked if it was free running. Cheers spud
  22. MS260 recently had new clutch. The problem is once the chain is correctly tensioned the saw wont run the chain...you need to slacken it off till the chain is really loose and gradually retension it till it runs on the guidebar. After a couple of revs the chain seems to self over tension ...so your having to slacken it off again and retension.Sprocket, guidebar and chain all in good nick. Its a ball buster-i almost bounced it off a wall today. Any ideas..? Cheers folks
  23. Older 261's are great,no needle bearing issues.
  24. By not rigging-people on here will think less of you and a general opinion will be formed that you are a big gay. Rigging big limbs makes you a big hairy arsed man just like us... Im joking off coarse, that was not at all gay but a very good watch indeed thank you my good hairy arsed man
