Best way to learn to climb is too climb as much as possible in a work capacity,by that i mean getting out on branches(to prune) or getting into a work position to use the chainsaw. You can pick up lots of tips from watching other people climb on Youtube or facebook etc but in my opinion practice really does make you a more efficient and productive climber.

I was talkin to a kid in our yard the other day who's on one of these government sponsored training schemes...i noticed his boots were untied i said "better tie your laces mate "...his reply was i cant tie laces i wear velcroe strap trainers...ffs...really. Seen the same kid just this week with no socks on,his chargehand said he forgot to put them on... Little bit scarey init...

Pfanners by a mile. 1 small issue though and it maybe just me but in the inside leg where the protective material atatches on to the inner thigh material is a ridge/seam that rubs against my leg pulling out hairs-made 10 times worse on hot days. As i say it may just be me but be warned-it can get right on your tits

Roundup is just a product name,the active ingredient in roundup is glyphosate which can be bought and mixed to use in a backpack sprayer at a fraction of the cost. A word of warning though-ive read lately that roundup(glyphosate)will be a banned product in the near future as long time use has been linked with cancers in individuals.There was a thread on it on arbtalk not so long ago. Have you concidered mixing up a natural weedkiller yourself? Look it up on the internet as there are many options to spraying weeds with natural products rather than expensive chemicals.

People just dont understand how challenging a day in the trees can be,add onto that the amount of travelling/driving which is also stressful,its quite understandable how pissed off you are. I find a good old punch in the nut helps in putting these people in the picture as too how you feel. However its your father in law so perhaps a nut punch wouldnt be the best course of action. Joking aside...people just dont get it-i think thats why alot of tree folk go onto arb websites and groups as fellow tree folk are the only ones who get it.

No offence taken mate,its the attitude im used too. Unfortunatly the public opinion of all council workers is were all over paid work shy bastards,which if im being honest is true to most of the guys on the tools but there are some of us who take our job seriously,have a positive work ethic and genuinly try to make a difference out there. If im being honest im a bit sensetive to people having a pop because im a council worker-the daily comments grind me down when were a hard working crew who take pride in our work.Our gaffer has instilled that sense of pride in us and were all keen to get on and do the job as safely as possible and too the highest standard possible. Cheers for your comments though im sure your local authority has some guys who work hard too,its just were in the minority im afraid.

Been subbie for couple of local firms last couple of years mate.Safe to say climbing in the real world does take your skills and productivity to a new level,although ive seen some right cowboys too. Dunno if i could climb at that pace 4/5 days a week though-it would kill me

Unfortunatly we dont get to say if we use mewps or not as the council deem mewps safer(working at height regs blah blah). Shouldnt really say this but we regularly climb street trees that have been deemed mewp jobs just for productivity and a bit of fun.

Are you sayin council tree surgeons are not pro's...? Theres 2 guys in our crew who could keep up with any climber on these pages. Im the first too admit the council have a lot of failings but our guys are skilled,experienced and work bloody hard. Rant over
