Every good climber ive met is 30-40 years old, built like a whip and has a rolly permanently hangin out his gob. These guys have got big balls and a dont give a f#@k attitude.For some guys physical fitness doesnt even come into it,nicotine and coffee propells them too the top of a tree

Ive seen some pretty chunky young guys coming into the industry.I think the use of ascenders and newer technology takes the hard work out of climbing in the physical side of things....mental toughness is the real issue for me,as said before bodies adapt to the job but it takes the mind a lot longer to get "fit" for the tasks at hand.

Ive had experience with both kabota and john deere tractors,if it was me id opt for kabota-just better longevity in my experience.

I can only speak from a climbers point of view and to be honest id rather climb and dismantle a big tree and reduce it to a 30ft stem then knock it over even if it could be felled in one go.I get twitchy felling big trees because i dont do it regular enough to have a lot of confidence in my capabilities infact one of the ground guys has forestry experience but only has cs30/31 but ive seen him fell some trees that id get nervy about. Simple fact is he does it because he has lots of experience and confidence in his capabilities.

The only pole pruner ive used is the stihl HT 101,it does the job but its quite fagile.Ive dropped one and the telescopic pole bent.It still works but i can only extend it so far. If you intend using one all day id invest in a harness of your choice as its brutal on the shoulders at full extension.

I had a beard,it grew in ginger,i didnt like it but the wife approved-infact she improved the hell out of me...i had to shave it at the start of the summer,my wife hasnt approved me as briskly as she did before...roll on winter

Its difficult to recommend certain brands or styles as PPE,believe it or not,is a very personal thing.Some might love a certain brand or style of trousers others may hate them because of the fit or style. Best advice is to try on as many types as you can,trousers,gloves,helmets and boots and see what you feel comfortable in. My recomendation is to find whats comfortable and doesnt cook your nuts,catch man glitter rub against your thights etc etc etc. You'll be wearing these items all day in varying weather conditions so make wise choices. Ive got the 181's predessesor the ms 180 and wouldnt part with it. That little saws got me out of so many holes,its payed for itself many times over.I may cry when it finally dies

Silver birch dont like pruning and some die back can occur at the pruning points.Ive always been led to believe summer early autumn is best time to prune,to be honest i couldnt say why. Ive been told they "bleed " a lot but im just quoting what ive been told by more experienced guys than me. Ive heavy pruned pendula's and got away with it
