  5. As said before a good climber can earn 120-150 a day but to get that money you'll need lots of experience, all your tickets, saws and ppe. Thats about 5 years and about 8 grand give or take. To get to that point you'll need to start at the bottom draggin brash and chipping. It looks great from the outside lookin in but in reality its a bloody hard job, climbing a slimey sycamore on a pissin wet day isnt fun and its one of the most dangerous to do. Im not tryin to put you off just opening your eyes to the realities of the industry.
  6. No ive had very little info so far,ive emailed them to get updates but heard nowt back as yet. All the info i have is 40 bat boxes to be mounted in various sites around loch lomond national park
  7. I tend to wear a forestry helmet with mesh visor and safety spec aswell. I never came across clear plastic visor thats lasts
  8. Thats interesting,i hadent even concidered ladders,as i said i dont have much info as yet but i just assumed it would be climbing work so rope access up the tree.
  9. Hello all,Ive been offered some work in Loch Lomond national park installing bat boxes. Ive not had much information as yet i just know its 40 boxes.I dont know how many other climbers are doing it either. Just wondered if anyone has any experience doing this. Cheers guys n gals

  15. 150,200,180,261,038,440,540xp Thats 7 saws Im a tree surgeon
  16. That looks like the kind of climb i love, methodical cutting, silky work, sun in the sky no noise just you and the wind...bliss
  17. Ive have experienced nails in trees before just not so many. Does it actually have a detremental effect on the tree?
  18. England seem to be addicted to exiting Ha!
  19. Loads of nails from knee height to over my head height 5'11 and only a couple higher up
  20. As the title said nails in trees, went through 2x chains on the 261 and 1 on the 038av today because some thick sod put nails into a cherry tree, probably banged them in with his neandethal head the moron. Dead cherry take down this morning easy wee morning morning job i thought....not how it turned out. Im sure some of you guys can sympathise and have come across the same issue. Does putting nails into trees actually have an effect on the tree anyway?? The tree was dead...
  21. Whole host of variables to answer that question, but as treequip states there are pro's and cons to the angle variations depending on type of chain, hard or soft wood or even how the person cutting weilds the saw. Trial and error would be my recommendation, try different angles and see how it affects the cutting performance
  22. Having had tattoos since i was old enough to get tattoo'd,got my first at 18 and im 44 now,im heavily tattood and ive seen both ends of the spectrum. It was widley regarded that anyone with tattoos was either a dodgy character or armed forces.Im neither but i have experienced prejudice on the fact i have tattoos and i know its cost me work in the past(i used to be a chef 20 years ago). Thankfully those days have gone, tattoos are very common and accepted in mainstream society. I would have no problem hiring a person who was heavily tattood;arm, hands even neck and face, its not how a person looks its how they are as a person, employee or wokmate. I pity people who judge others because of the way they look.
  23. Never done a reduction im 100% happy with yet, that dpm thingy sounds good though, ime the clients happy but the climbers not
