  1. Im amazed no ones mentioned danger wank yet...
  2. Im no mechanic but i always check the easy stuff first.Did you use fresh fuel? Is it at a 50:1 ratio Check the air filter Check the spark plug what colour is the spark plug electrode as that can be an indicator to other issues. Check fuel filter. If i have a saw lying around (usually dont) or buy one i always service it and go through the bits i know to check for issues. Could be a fuel line but check the easier bits first. Im sure someone will be along to give your more indepth advice. Hope its an easy fix mate
  3. Stunning pictures paul.Hope you plan to come back to sunny scotland soon. We are blessed with some beautiful landscapes...
  4. We watched the yanks bombard the Iraqies with there 198's and abrams tanks. The most awesome, terrifying and exciting thing ive ever seen. Dunno how anyone could live through that.
  5. The problem here is not whether to climb srt or not its how to get the company to apply it to the method statement and or risk assesment. Some companies have generic risk assesments that apply to all tree works and are very dismissive of anyone trying to change/update/adjust them. Local authorities are very guilty of this and as a consequence have been caught out more than a couple of times when clark of works or hse have sniffed about a jobsite. Simple fact is if you can prove srt is safer, quicker, causes less fatigue and can increase productivity then any sane employer would readily agree to its employees using the system. Unfortunatly for some employers this means a whole lot of paper work, phone calls and perhaps even an adjustment to insurance cover. Too much to ask of your run of the mill office jockey...
  6. Climbers make the best groundies. They know what you need before you have to ask to get it sent up. They have the experience to see what your doing and apply themselves to do what you need them to do on the deck. Ive seen a couple of really top notch groundies that are not climbers but decades of experience got them to that point.
  7. To be fair last guy we had on his climbing tickets was given at go at srt and said he liked it. Some training companies are showing climbing candidates modern techniques. Always good to know a blakes hitch and the 3 knot system, could get you out of a tight spot. Personally id rather get rescued out the tree and endure the monumental roasting id get afterwards than attempt to tie a blakes
  8. No When your trained by nptc to climb you are taught how to set up climbing systems and the principles behind climbing safely on whichever system you chose. The principles are the same for 3 knot system, prussik, hitch climber or a mechanical ascender.
  9. What??? Utter drivel.... So we cure inequality and poverty by making 7 year olds work in the fields? Id agree to an extent that poor parenting and kids having kids is a factor in some of our issues but you cant compare the culture from 300 years ago to modern society.
  10. I didnt say move families i said we should be helping to improve the lives of impoverished families etc in run down areas.
  11. Your sayin everyone who lives in poverty in a run down estate is a a criminal or part of a problem/dysfunctional family. Just not the case ime
  12. Of course were are tvi. Were well aware that countries such as Kenya,Tanzania,South Africa etc arent in the same situation as places such as Somalia but were not ploughing millions of pounds in to those countries are we? Id be interested to see how many other African nations are helping there sister countries with aid each year. Heres the problem for me in a nutshell. We give aid to third world nations when we have third world housing estates in our own country. I bet anyone reading this can name a housing estate or an area in there own city thats deprived, run down and desperatley in need of aid. Charity begins at home. Help the homless, help the aged, help the less abled or physically challenged first. Aid for Africa is a wasted billions and has been for decades...
  13. You can buy CE approved rope wrench kits and as long as your other gear is lolered then whats the problem. Wouldnt use a zigzag with a rope wrench though as its deemed"unsafe" although it works perfectly....im told... Ahem...
  14. Spent 3 days in Mogadishu on changeover goin back to UK after some training in impala national park near kisumu in Kenya. We werent "allowed" outside the base but we went out a couple of times. The first was a real eye opener, the smell is totally horrendous, really really horrendous-i couldnt describe it-the people were very unfriendly and eyed us suspiciously. Some kids came over to us but were repeatedly called away by theyre elders.I dont know much about Somalia or its history but whites are looked at as being really bad news. Ive found in my experience of globe trotting in the forces that black people and arabs are just as bigoted, racist and prejudiced against whites as some whites are of them. Its sad lookin back on that now because i was young and i didnt understand the fact that perhaps thise people saw us as just another western army passing through there city/country but not helping them. To me it looked as if no one was pro active in trying to improve the situation, the men were quite happy to sit around smoking and pissing on street corners. Kenya was dry, very very very hot but beautiful, espescially lwangi beach.
  15. I love catching up with this thread its really cheers me up... My opinion on the Africa subject, ive been to mogadishu.. If all of Africa is like that then its doomed and all the aid in the world wont help people who wont help themselves..
  16. Wouldnt be arbtalk if an open question didnt descended into a petty squabble would it... Matty ive tried most ground helmets and none have ticked all the boxes. Husky technical is probably the best ive used for comfort but i dont use em that often to know about longevity or how robust they are mate.
  17. I think you'll find i look proper fuckn smashin in my helmet
  18. Absolutley mick. Were thinking of getting another
  19. My little working cocker nora 1 year old recently and has already bagged her 1st munro, drove me batty and proved there is still joy in having another pooch after the death of my beloved collie wallace...
  20. FC dont like a lot of things, doesnt stop us doing it though does it...
  21. Husky techni......i'll get me coat... Whats wrong with using your climbing helmet matty?
  22. Replace the red pulley in the 1st photo with the rings, its that simple. Thats a 3:1 i used on that job
  23. The way i understand it is the rings are easier to set up in the tree and provide a bit more friction so less wraps are needed on the portwrap. You may not even need a portawrap if your using 2 sets of rings,1 at one end and another set as a redirect. Plus they look cool as fck!
  24. Aint the body an amazing tool ! Had a day booked off work today so had a morning session at the gym. Havent trained arms in a good while due to my tendonitis being a big issue but i only had a couple of little climbs this week so decided to see if i could do an arm workout. 5x sets at a 10 rep weight for ez bar bicep curls superset with 5x sets of 10 (ish) reps on tricep extensions. Ive gained about 5% increase in weight on biceps with a little gain on triceps aswell.Bear in mind ive not hit those muscles in over 2 weeks. Im amazed! Completed my workout with bulgarian split squats with a 20kg dumbell 8 x sets(i think) 12-15 reps on each leg, burns like a bastard and i know im gonna have issues gettin off the toilet tommorow. Again supersets the split squats with incline dumbell chest press 8 x sets of 12-15 reps with 2x 25kg dumbells. The doms tomorrow me thinks..
  25. You left out the most relevant part shane. At the end of that blackadder turns to percy and says (about rum) "Mad as a brush" Apt
