  1. Hi Rob, thanks for chiming in. It’s a 550 standard bar and chain. On the larger (longer/less used) teeth it’s hard to fit this file between the raker and the tooth. I know it’s not right, it’s not even the right file, but it really does cut fast. Did the 560 the other day, impressive cutting from that as well. I will look at the vid later, after the cup semi final.
  2. Very very funny fella. Just been watching some clips of him on various shows.
  3. I found with a new file it was easy enough to change from a round file tooth to a square file. But I wouldn’t argue with a forester on sharpening protocol!
  4. I don’t want to be negative, but you’re not learning how to run a company, in real terms it doesn’t exist. What exactly are you doing atm, Freelance climbing? Are you renting a truck and chipper? I have a feeling that Duncan Banntyne might have a few choice words.
  5. I saw the Vallorbe on the net whilst researching, this is a Stihl file btw. I’m guessing this is exactly the same. What happens in hardwoods? Gets a bit grabby?
  6. All very true. But you’re not 27, there’s a world to conquer at that age.
  7. Anyway, funny story. I went down to order a few more of these files, turns out these are for sharpening circular saw blades, not square ground chainsaw teeth (no bevel on the edges) But the 560 I just sharpened is fairly epic in wood so I’ll carry on using it for these chains and see how it goes.
  8. Have you seen those horse-less carriages going down the road? Some reaching 30mph! It’s not natural I tells yer! Human body can’t take it!
  9. 27 is young, you’ve achieved a lot. I have no answers for you (that I’ll put on here) Don’t be too tough on yourself.
  10. Not deliberate, per se. It failed to dump the boosters or something. But from what I’ve read it wasn’t a disaster. Getting it off the ground was the key part.
  11. As I understand it, getting the thing off the launch pad and upwards was the main objective. It was never going to the moon.
  12. I kept putting my climbing rate up to him as I was earning more and more on my own work. Then (as a consequence) he hired a full time climber and I was frozen out, but business is business, it forced me to go 100% independent. Except for the odd job where I came in on his work with machinery and my own groundy.
  13. When I was in the UK I had a mate with whom I used to work, in fairness we’ve been friends since we were 11. He had better work than me usually. When I worked for him he would honestly tell me when he had good money on a job and reward me better. If it was tight I’d help him a bit on price. It all evened out.
  14. I understand there’s different methods. I just replicated what I do with the round file on a standard tooth.
  15. Usually it’s a case of cherchez la femme.
  16. Like many I have heard and seen a bit about this method. Bit of a dark art/years to learn etc. So I was buying some files and saw this one and bought it a few months back. Couple of stock 550s in everyday use, had an afternoon free so, without looking at any tutorials or the like got busy. Now I don’t know if the edge will last, but it’s pretty fricking tasty in wood (this is spruce btw) I was on my own so getting a vid was difficult so apologies for that. See what you think. 17. The converted always make the best preachers eh?
  18. There’s a special pleasure in using loaders for those of us who have hand-balled brash onto a flatbed transit, or cut massive trees into rounds and then cheese triangles, then loaded then into a wheelbarrow then onto a truck, only to see crimson on their arse-wipe the next morning.
  19. Massive included bark by the look of it. As has been said, needs an on-site visit.
  20. The Fox News thing is rather sweet, and another one coming down the line from another company. Lying just to tell their core audience what they wanted to hear for fear they’d go elsewhere if they heard the truth.
