    It used to be a joke, and it was good as a joke, laugh at Johnny Foreigner taking it seriously. Me and the wife watched it every year until the voting started (which coincides with alcohol levels reaching critical) Now, God help us, it’s getting serious. My misgivings. 1: Too many messages, lbgtqt stuff, gushy inclusivity blah blah blah. 2: The Ukraine thing, I’m all for supporting them, but let’s not use it as a propaganda tool, thankfully Zelensky won’t be allowed to make a video appearance. 3: Too many Scousers on TV.

    If there’s one thing I cannot abide it’s nuisance noise. I don’t mind a dog barking for a bit, not for hours, or when it’s clearly in need of attention. A saw going for a couple of hours to prepare firewood (it’s often bought in metre lengths here and has to be cut) Two stroke strimmers, hedge cutters etc, for the duration of a domestic job. But inconsiderate noise by inconsiderate people really grinds my gears.

    When I did the same it was a noggin 1” diameter by 2” long, I was reducing a beech over the roof, it was an upright piece, and I thought I’ll just feather it through and stop the saw then grab the piece, but it caught the chain and span off the end of the bar like a suitcase off a possessed luggage carousel. I watched the arc of its fall in horror like Gollum watching his precious falling into Mount Doom, then disappear into the shed through the hole it had created, like the ring being swallowed by the lava. Moral of the story… Yes, as mentioned, use boards. Gareth is an idiot.

    I did exactly that, tried to find the same sheet, couldn’t, tried to patch it up, couldn’t. Turned out to be asbestos. Insurance claim, whole roof got replaced.

    No, it doesn’t mean another hundred on the price, it’s another hundred on YOUR price. It’s up to the firm if they put the hundred on, swallow it, or get a cheaper guy in.

    Had to do a DPF regen this morning (bit naughty on a Sunday I know noise wise) I didn’t realise these Tier 5 engines need to be used a bit and not mollycoddled, only 145 hours on it. Stuck it behind the house for an house with the engine roaring till it had burnt off all the soot in the DPF. Every day is a school day as they say.

    Yes the Avant was able to get everything else close enough, but when it won’t budge and you have a couple of chains, why tear the loader up trying to move it? Here it is doing exactly as you say, difference is, it’s a dead cedar stem, half the weight of a knotty green Douglas stem.

    We did, but that particular one was too much for the loader, so we used chains to get it close enough, documented by Dave here.. IMG_2894.MOV

    That’s a very decent timber lorry, and an extremely tight fisted owner operator who.. A. Detests breaking anything which will cost him money. B. Leaving any wood at all that he can make money on. C. Paying anything for the wood he collects. Flipside is he will come when he says he will. Here he is getting the biggest lump close enough to load, carefully placing it on the bed of the truck, then moving the grab into the COG to get it up in the air (not recorded) Me pacing around anxiously worrying about fixing broken concrete posts etc. IMG_2891.MOV

    Today was day 3, just raking up and ensuring the timber lorry got loaded ok. Day 1, stripped and chipped 4 of the 7. Day 2, did the other 3, felled the butts.
