I think, in all fairness, that is the worst table I’ve ever seen. Edit, I realise that like me you’re a speed wordler, trying to get it done before starting work. That can lead to this sort of catastrophe.

I believe that is why Avant made it ‘lightweight’ both in actual weight and pulling capacity. They don’t want it to be used for heavy pulls for the reasons you mentioned. It is no match for a proper forestry winch for sure. Heres Avants sales video There’s a hell of a lot of power through the wheels on these machines so for most applications, pulling over back leaners, getting large lumps out of tricky places etc. I can use the machine direct or with a rope or chain. I want it to bring maybe 60 spindly acacia up a steep slope (too steep to drive down safely) to a ‘landing point’ (a mini forestry job) where reversing the Avant with a rope on repeatedly would be….inefficient. It was only 1200 quid all in, light enough to load on the pick up by two blokes, so bringing it to a job doesn’t involve extra trailers or hassle. I will test it later and put a vid up. -

Had a mate coming over for the weekend, vendor had a day off work through bad weather so he brought it down to him. All worked out in the end. -

I wouldn’t worry, looks like you’ve gone in quite tight, so you’ll get a few brown bits. Leylandii can’t be kept at a constant width, they have to get a little bigger every year, till someone goes in too hard and the big brown patches appear.

For my part certainly not now, and probably not at any time in the past.

More of a purple beech, Fagus Sylvatica Purperea, but no matter. I think a light trim could fit your requirements, beech don’t react very well to heavy pruning so a very sympathetic job is in order. You’d still keep the beauty of the tree but it’d be a less overwhelming. Not every climber would be able to do a really top job, this type of work is some of the most difficult work one has to do in trees, so I’d do some research and pick one who really understands the remit.
