  1. I know these letters are in all probability fake, but the advice handed out annoyed me.
  2. Was upstairs just now, performing my ablutions, found an old YOU magazine with this letter, I felt that I could have given some better advice. Your letter just reeks of me, me, me. Your mug of a husband is flogging his guts out to provide for you and the kids, gets home and he fancies a couple of beers and some telly, so what? Last thing he needs is to go back out and spend time with your friends and other peoples kids, if he’s happy for you to do it that’s great isn’t it? So now you’re planning to stripe the poor bastard of half of everything so you can fulfill your dreams of being a ‘free spirit’ (at his expense) just cos you’re not getting enough attention? Grow up, count your blessings and maybe get a vibrator. Grass isn’t always greener.
  3. 35hp Rayco grinder, Briggs and Stratton engine. I have already spent a grand getting a subby grinder in. Only 1 job on the books that needs grinding, so maybe I will send it back. Terrible head cold atm so wasn’t going to do it today anyway.
  4. It’s dead.
  5. I suppose it depends if we’re here all day or not. Approx 1 barrow a day on average whatever that is.
  6. Ok, maybe I will.
  7. Upgrade kit worked well on the first 201t. Developed by Brad Snelling as I understand it. Pretty soon Stihl adopted it and after that they were fine.
  8. You wait a month for the part and then this!
  9. Have you posted a picture of the outside flue/chimney? I can’t remember.
  10. …..
  11. 4 is 5 here. plus we’re a bit close to the equator so..
  12. Maybe it’s just that you have no control of your legacy once you’re gone, be it from an old house or this mortal plane. Same goes for unauthorized planting trees, one day a guy will cut it down without a seconds thought. Like Stub’s three oaks.
  13. I had a older Dutch client near me who had around an acre around the house, planted it up with all sorts of small stuff, making the beginnings of a little woodland. Every time we worked there we had to negotiate dragging the branches above and around dozens of little trees that he had planted and cherished thinking of the future and the legacy he was leaving. He got ill, so he and his wife sold up and moved back to Holland. Went round there last year to look at some work for the new owners, they’d cleared the lot and put horses on it. I don’t know the moral of this story.
  14. I don’t mind dicking around on a Sunday in the workshop, but I never talk to clients or do visits on Sunday.
  15. @KateH One good thing about this job, compared to say the building trade, is our old friend ‘job and knock’ which means that for many (most?) firms you get a job to do and if you finish the job early, you finish work early, down the pub or on the sofa or whatever you like. This rewards guys who hit it hard for the first few hours, then cruise to the finish line. I can’t remember the last late finish we’ve had.
  16. ‘I find it insulting that you or others keep mentioning my wages’
  17. You won’t get one. You’ll get prevarication, obfuscation and if all else fails they’ll wheel out Covid.
  18. Take it out. Thoughtless planting.
  19. What was the upshot of that grinding work you posted in 2016?
  20. So now you know what ‘proffer’ means.
  21. I think as they say, he asked first. Go on Andy, proffer up something!
  22. Ha ha! ’our achievements so far’ Taken back control of our borders.
  23. But a real word that changed the meaning of your post, not a clear typo. I asked you the meaning (politely) you get all defensive, don’t even check it to see the mistake and make an even bigger arse of yourself.
  24. You used the word ‘proffering’
