    It’s an odd one. Whats stopping the unscrupulous from using hundreds of pounds worth of Aspen for three months, then saying it’s not for them, getting a good deal of their money back having A. Never intended to change over. B. Used it for years anyway. I suppose there are some filtering processes in place.

    I had only been out here 3 years and was just getting going before it all fell off a cliff very rapidly. I owned my own gear outright so it was more a case of dealing with the boredom and feeling of being adrift. It did cause me to change my focus away from working mostly for Brit expats and towards the French clientele, I worked harder on the lingo and started advertising in French publications. This paid off over the years as I now have a good mix (eggs/baskets etc.) The worst thing I did was buy a Land Rover tipper because I thought I’d rationalise by selling the 4wd and the transit and run just one vehicle that would do both. It ended up being the quintessential Witch’s curse of a truck, costing me a fortune and my self confidence regarding big purchases. Sounds like an exaggeration but it really set me back.

    Problem is you change the pull in once you make the rollers smaller. You can touch them up yourself very effectively with a flappy disc, in situ. Just don’t reduce the size, tickle each side to improve the grab.

    Saturday morning freebie for my Brother in Law. Triple plat poly rope, natural crotch, crash it down and walk away. Should have listened to Blur and Oasis on the way for the full 90s experience.

    I use 1 diary to write down everything, phone numbers, clients, maps of gardens, prices, dates to do stuff. It’s all there in one place. Cannot understand what the fook I wrote 1 week later, total gobblygook, still, neither can the taxman.

    Probably the same as if we wired up tree surgeons. Will there be any damage to the lawn? We’ll keep it to a minimum You will save me as much firewood as possible and not put it in the chipper? Of course (till they’ve gone back in the house) Nobody tells the truth all the time, everyone lies hundreds of times a day, you, your mum, the pope, politicians. Otherwise nothing would ever get done.

    Around a grand would be a good price for dismantling and removal.

    Failure and success! Grinder went south, just firing on one cylinder and backfiring like a clowns car. Under FaceTime supervision from my brother in England we (he) surmised a head gasket issue. Got it apart and voila! A perished gasket letting oil escape. Should be a cheap fix. Saved myself a monkey at least. Quite pleased with myself. little victories etc….

    Well there’s a little bit of useful info when we revert to warring tribes after the breakdown of society.

    I am presuming it’s a sycamore, so on that basis.. I think it won’t be long before it fails, could be years yet, but it’s certainly not got much of a future as it is. If you are very keen to retain it I’d suggest starting a pollard cycle, take a third off, rinse and repeat every five years or so till it’s had it’s day. If you’re not that fussed about it, have it out (I would) depending on what the tree officer says of course.
