  1. I think the ‘watch and brief’ part may mean an awareness of nesting birds, which may stop the job.
  2. To me, looks like a load of crap as an understory, clear it all and leave the decent size trees.
  3. Mine has that as well, didn’t realise it was robust enough for anything more than recovery. Good info.
  4. Very good points, the towbar provides the safest pulling point on all 3.5 tonners though doesn’t it?
  5. Has it? Any examples of this generic phrase to show us on here?
  6. Can you provide pictures?
  7. 130+ hp delivered through 4 tyres on tarmac, ideally with a tonne of chip on the back. Obviously don’t put a 17 year old behind the wheel and have a line of communication between the faller and the driver. Beats dismantling a tree for hours every day of the week.
  8. You going to tell us why, in the absence of other methods of applying real pulling power, a truck or loader or even a tracked chipper should not be used?
  9. Nicely executed square cut imo. A straight drive was the intended shot, but 4 runs on the board anyway.
  10. What’s wrong with pulling tree with trucks?
  11. In cricket there’s a saying. ”you cannot set a field for bad bowling”
  12. Well they got it wrong on that day, that’s for sure. We don’t know the circumstances, only the outcome. I cannot join in the pile on on the guy(s) Even knowing what you’re doing doesn’t prevent something going wrong.
  13. The reason why the money is relatively high to do jobs like this, is because fook ups can happen, if there was no risk there’d be no reward, if there’s jeopardy, then there has to be failure. Back in the day there were no camera phones, so stuff went unrecorded (thankfully) Be grateful stuff like this happens, it focuses the public’s mind when it come to choosing who they want to dismantle that big tree over their house, and give you some ammo if you’re more expensive than the other guy.
  14. Oh yeah, saw that as well. No idea what went on there.
  15. Habitat Dave.
  16. There is a rope on it, from the truck.
  17. Saw the new angle on FB (what I presume you tried to post) Saw trapped quite early into the back cut. Maybe a hollow centre? he started the other side too close to the hinge and when he got to this side it was all that was holding it. looked like a fair bit of back/side lean.
  18. It was a bold fell considering the targets. Pure speculation of course, but I’m guessing that the faller was standing the other side to the direction of the fall, and cut through the hinge. Lot of buttress roots on a lombardy. Can result in a tendancy to be unaware of where the end of the bar is.
  19. So do lots of firms/people,
  20. In fairness, this is not Bartletts. Maybe it’s time to let that drop in this thread.
  21. Saw that on FB, very lucky indeed.
  22. Yeah, I wouldn’t bother too much with a pop.
  23. Not in my experience. post a pic, I do loads of lapsed and maidens (been up a few lapsed maidens as well!) I’ll tell you what I think.
