  1. Did a day subbing for a tree firm on the Bluebell railway in the late 90s cutting overhanging branches. There was a volunteer there in a wheelchair because he got a bit overeager trying to clear up a few years before.
  2. Does look a lot easier than I had imagined.
  3. If I priced it ‘correctly’ in those circumstances it would be very very high, much higher than you. I don’t have your equipment so I’d have to team up with others with heavy metal to get it done. What would probably happen is I’d fudge it and spend three days running wood back and forth, looking at the fuel gauge, cursing the Gods. Having said that, because that is a beech as opposed to a cedar say, the wood does have some value, that is a factor. What would you do with the wood from that tree?
  4. Everything depend on logistics, is there a local firewood guy with a tractor and grab who’ll take the wood for free (or even pay?) someone who’ll take the chip nearby? (Maybe aforementioned firewood guy as a sweetener) If so €3k plus purchase tax, two days climbing and lowering max. If you have to clear everything off site yourself, and the yard is a bit of a trek away, then break out the calculator and do your sums. Edit: Thats 3 guys plus Avant and 10 inch chipper btw
  5. You never should have told your insurance company about it.
  6. Bio oil easy enough to source.
  7. I’d have just done it and been careful.
  8. Why not charge them £50 or something? That way they’re a paying client and your insurance covers it. And try not to kill any volunteers.
  9. I presume you don’t have your own tree surgery biz?
  10. Presumably that’s Krone. €4300, strong money for that but certainly warranted.
  11. Congratulations!
  12. I think he’d pretty much reconciled himself to crossing Disneyland off his wish list anyway.
  13. It’s a nothing story imo. Otherwise Dubya would have one as well, if anyone thinks Putin or the Russian public give a monkey’s toss about this, they want their heads looking at.
  14. Well I dunno, maybe they’re swinging the lead, maybe not, if I had been sent to a job like that you’d have heard me cursing from the next county. I would have specified it down to 5ft so they don’t have to use a ladder or anything, 6.5ft is a bastard height to achieve.
  15. There’s a backstory here that I think you should share first.
  16. I think this is worth a bump for those who haven’t seen it. Natural crotch rigging and climber lowering is a bit of a forgotten art and one of my favourite little tricks for speeding a job up. Also, my nephew met Grahame Macmahon in an arborist store today (yesterday) in Melbourne, so it reminded me of this vid. My advice watch the second one before the first.
  17. I genuinely believe that is a better spelling of the word.
  18. Is this current? Looks too early in spring for that phase of leaf production. It’s a ridiculous ask as the tree is out of focus, but judging by form I’d say an oak (in about a months time!)
  19. What’s your point here?
  20. Looks like lime, but could well be Norway maple. I’d hang fire on the burning pitchforks for the moment. I’m burning lime at the moment mixed in with other stuff, it’s ok.
  21. You know what BAFTAS stands for right?
