  1. Morning all. I'm in the market for a red diesel tank to allow me to buy in bulk. I'm fed up of going to the local filling station for red, and would much rather have my ow tank. There is a fella not far from me here selling a variety of different tanks, all of them I'd say are very much used. Some are road tow, some are static. Ideally I'd like a static one, but I am not afraid to get a road tow and ditch the trailer chassis. I'm usually pretty good at buying stuff second hand, and trust my instincts. But is there anything I need to be wary of when buying a fuel tank? I am looking into maybe getting the eventual purchase cleaned professionally so I know there will be minimum risk of contamination of the fuel I put in. Some of the ones for sale locally have a manual pump, would folk think this will suffice for a relatively small user like myself or should I save myself the hassle and get an electric pump? Thoughts as always, most appreciated folks!
  2. Cheers for the advice all, will get the measuring stick out today and see where tow bar sits. I have had quotes from a few firms for new suspension set up, so will likely be ordering that soon too. Will probably go for a lift all round too. I’m also looking into options for a new tow bar, one that’s adjustable like Mick has linked too. Thankfully I don’t have any long journeys coming up any time soon, everything is local so problem is nullified.
  3. Planted my Amelanchier just outside the house last year, so able to enjoy it this year!
  4. Cheers Khriss! Had another boss day on the track today.
  5. Hey Ernie! Cheers for the reply. Sounds like your experience was equally as nasty and terrifying. I’m going to have a mess about with the positioning of the Logbullet on the trailer. See what’s happening. One thing I am looking at now is getting updated and stiff suspension that also raises the ride height by about an inch and half. This might also help the tow bar positioning issue I am having too.
  6. Since the near miss incident, I’ve started positioning the machine about a foot further forward than previously. I figured the extra nose weight would be better, but could be wrong? It does sit relatively flat for the most part, but definitely looks worse in the photo. The tow bar itself is a Witter one, and as far as I can gather they are a reputable brand with decent reviews etc. It isn’t adjustable in any way though, so maybe that is an issue. Come to think about it, I do think it maybe sits a bit low for the trailer. I often find myself having to stand on the hitch with one foot to force it down onto the tow bar. Might be time to look into alternatives, any recommendations folks?
  7. I've been out earning today. Extracting timber at the Croft race track! This little machine continues to surprise me with its capacity and keen attitude to shifting timber! ??
  8. After recommendation from @Gray git I got Sena comms from www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk They currently have reductions on the Sena range too, so I might treat myself to another one just in case. I fitted mine to my existing ear defenders, very easy to do if you can operate a drill. Sound is great quality as is the calls. I often take calls whilst operating my Logbullet so it’s decent at saving time. The Bluetooth connection is good, and the audio quality is good too.
  9. I have a combination of Husky, Stihl and Oregon kicking about, all plastic. Love the wee Husky one for longevity. The medium sized Stihl ones are decent enough, and the Stihl highlights are just mega. Someone I follow on Instagram was using these recently, and they looked decent but I haven’t use them personally. I will be ordering some at some point though, they do three sizes. 10. I’m still working, but doing 3 days a week to help out at home with the baby. I am continuing to do so, as I don’t qualify for the governments helps schemes as my company hasn’t been established long enough. Doing 3 days a week is adequate to stop me from going under. I work alone using my compact forwarder, in privately owned woodlands with no public access or right of ways to worry about. I see the forestry manager of the estate infrequently and we adhere to all guidelines regarding social distancing when we do chat. When I’m finished work I go home, strip in the garage and then go straight for a shower. None of my work gear comes into the house, and all my bait box etc are washed in the dishwasher. I take what I feel to be all the correct precautions to prevent the virus coming into my house, whilst also maintaining a functioning business. I can’t think of a better profession to practice social distancing and self isolation than forestry! I appreciate the points raised about accidents, and I am extra careful when using the machine normally anyway. However, I need to find a living from somewhere, and feel on balance me doing what I am doing is acceptable. Biomass/wood chip still needs supplying. I still need to earn. Some will disagree, but that’s life.
  11. It was indeed good to get the two machines working in harmony (for the most part!)
  12. I didn’t do anything specific with my Instagram, it has just grown organically for the most part. I was offered some sort of incentive by them so I had one of my posts “boosted”for a nominal fee. Not sure what difference it made. I have just been paid for a job though that I got directly through Instagram. So it is useful for business, and I have also made some decent connections with folk on there with similar interests. I like it, I find it much better than Farcebook in comparison.
  13. And for those of us with a growing business who just started last year..... ?????
  14. Sure John would have popped along and mentioned the place he got his stuff from at some point, but I'm here so I may as well! GK Jackson & Sons - Vehicle Recovery Services, Priestbrige, Morpeth. WWW.JACKSONSGARAGE.COM
  15. I’m not envious of your situation! Two are bad enough! The pain is savage, and continuous. I had pain in my left one to start with, but the real pain is above my tackle. The GP prodded and probed me and my god did I know about it.
  16. In a remarkable coincidence, I have just discovered I have not one, but potentially two hernias emerging! ? so I am laid up now for quite some time. Started with aching balls on Sunday and got worse. Took a reluctant trip to GP last night (out of hours) and he was baffled. Went to regular GP today, and he strongly feels it’s at least one, but likely a matching pair. Normally he’d be referring me to hospital, but not essential so I’m resting at home. Well I say resting, I have a 2 and a bit year old son, a 3 week old daughter and a highly anxious partner at home. So rest is difficult!
  17. That's my job, thank you very much! ?
  18. Same here!
  19. Decent mate! West Wood? I can nip in next week back end, if thats any use?
  20. A factor often overlooked, keep em low folks! ??
  21. This was one I did a few months back, thought it was worthy!
  22. Ps. @Big J your bolster line and head stock extension are off to be galvanised so should be ready soon. I’ll text you the details.
  23. That doesn’t look like much fun gents! Murray, I notice in one of your photos you’ve got a ground saw just sitting there in the LB cab floor. I foolishly forgot to add the holder to my original order from Pekka, but he kindly gave me the details of where to get it from directly. It comes from a company called Iron Baltic, from a Estonia perhaps? Anyway, I ordered through their website and it arrived fairly quickly and I can not sing it’s praises enough. Such a simple thing, but boy is it handy. All I need now is the new Husky battery saw to go in it, so I don’t have to go through the process of starting a petrol saw every time!

    Chain oil

I think the stuff I’ve used is essentially Rotatech stuff. I’m fairly certain it came from Northern Arb Supplies. I have been very happy with it, so will probably order more of the same.

    Chain oil

Morning all. I’m sure this topic has been covered multiple times, but as per usual I can’t seem to use the Arbtalk search facility correctly! I buy my chain oil in bulk (well, 20/25 litre drums) and I’m coming to the end of my current batch of Super Sexy tackle. I’ve been very happy with it to be honest. I’ve used Oregon before but didn’t like it, it seemed extra flingy rather anti fling. I recall using some John Deere stuff before that was supposed to be for a harvester head, and found it very good. Does anyone have any recommendations for other brands to try? I was looking at Gator ET30, Rocwood, Westway Supertack, etc etc. I predominantly do first thinnings work, small scale forestry. Thanks in advance.
