  1. Everyone loves a bum shuffle
  2. But where would the fun in that be? He wouldn't get any sarcastic comments
  3. I may have misread but surely a throw line to any branch then ALT the rest to the tie in point???
  4. As above.. But perhaps just some maintenance of the trees to keep them healthy? Removing dead wood, crossing branches etc?
  5. Don't listen to me mate I was pissed in a bar in fuerteventura. The Mrs took the kid to bed and I carried on ploughing through Jim Beams! I don't even care that much! Was bored and drunk. Feel like dirt this morning but nothing a buffet breakfast and a swim won't cure!!
  6. That made me chuckle!
  7. Fair point... Mick/mountain man, I follow your posts and comments eagerly as I find you one of the funnier/wittier and more intelligent members, but this thread kind of has a "moot point" feeling to it. You're wasting time and money surely. A saw with a blunt blade is inefficient having detrimental effects on the saw as it has to work harder. Sharpening a saw is Tree surgery 101, surely?
  8. This... Morals do not pay the bills. I remember when I first started and was asked to "reduce" my mums neighbours prunus aviums, big ones, and I just pollarded the hell out of them.. They're fine. The world is harsh and nature will be here a lot longer than we will. Just crack on as someone else will and probably do a crap job of it. You may as well make the best of a bad situation.
  9. Where's mountain man gone?
  10. Got any examples?
  11. Had a similar problem with something I rebuilt.. I knew every aspect was working, but just couldn't get it to fire... Until I reset the ignition coil the correct distance from the flywheel. Not saying it is that, but at least you can work a process of elimination
  12. I'm 3 and a half weeks in at the moment.. Using an electric fag. Only thing that concerns me is the fact I feel anxious if I misplace it and have realised its another thing I'll have to quit. I found it hasn't helped me break any habits though.. After work I go to my mums on the way home and make a cup of tea and sit in the garden with my e-cig even though I don't have to!!
  13. Thanks!
  14. Just being nosey on this thread so please excuse me..... What are IBC's?
  15. We pay a guy £10 a visit to shoot our air rifles on his farm/ranch/land, or whatever he calls it. We fill our boots shooting rabbits, pheasants and if there's none of those around we unload into tin cans. We love it, gets us away from reality and he gets paid for doing nothing.
  16. What? THE Ronnie Pickering? The one who likes gardening and fishing?? 😂
  17. Check this video out... It's one of my favourite tree videos. I don't know who the guy is, but his rigging is awesome at what seems to be a very great height. He seems methodical and exercises caution whilst working. He, to me, is clearly a good climber and has the same ability as any of the climbers in the spotlight. [ame] [/ame]
  18. My ability is not as good as another guy I work with as I don't do as many trees as he does, but there are things I might approach in a more effective way than he. Never the less, he is like a squirrel in a tree and is 10 years my junior! Most of the time I'll work at a pace that I deem 'safe' as I have too much to lose by being Charlie big potatoes in the canopy! Having said that, if its a conifer with a half decent drop zone it's getting smashed!
  19. I love going for a reccy climb when I get the chance... Without the pressure of trying to get the job done and without wielding a chainsaw you can appreciate the views and the tree itself.. I went up a big Ash the other day and was just sat at the top with my electric fag taking in the sunset over suburbia.
  20. Prunus lusitanica... Portuguese laurel
  21. Happy days.. I was thinking of pulling an all nighter but now I know better
  22. When's the best time to prune a silver birch? Is now (September) ok?
  23. I've never understood why a phone number or email is printed on t-shirts. You shouldn't be standing still long enough for someone to write it down.
  24. What spud said, get back to dealer... But also I had a similar problem with a blower, it turned out the ignition coil had taken a knock. I put a new one on and it's as good as new.
  25. I use a panel van for trees, but my main forte is gardens. When I do a tree we mallet it down in the back of my transit with a chainsaw. It's not ideal but it's amazing what you can fit in my swb transit!! Due to the part time nature of my private work I can't afford/justify a tipper and chipper, but if you're doing it all day everyday the tippers gonna pay for itself.
