  1. Will, I have both.. You're welcome to try them if we go for a reccy climb. But, here's my opinion of the 2. I started with the LJ and loved it though wasn't keen on descending with it. It's not great, in my opinion, when going above a tie in point. When I got the zigzag I thought I was going to throw the lock jack in the bin! But, alas, it stays in my kit bag when conny bashing and the like. The zigzag seems quite precious at times and like others have said, beware of cross loading and bending when moving around a tight tree. Limb walking with the zigzag is excellent. My choice... Zigzag
  2. Just twatted one today with a hedgecutter or the pole saw, not sure, whilst reducing an overgrown cotoneaster. The thing wasn't taut at all and draped through the shrubbery. Anyway, it's bloody shredded! What do these sorts of things cost?
  3. I use a bright blue North Face coat. Not hi viz but you can't miss me!!
  4. I stand corrected! You're right.. Sometimes you can deal with those bolts with the orange handled screw driver
  5. You should of got the Torx driver with the saw? It'll be a bent black Alan key, but with a Torx head!
  6. Prob just the linkage to the carb... But, id take it back to jonesie and get it looked at properly. No point being up a tree and a brand new saw going tits on you.
  7. and that yellow wood that I can't remember ( bush/shrub that has thorns ) Berberis? Mahonia? Impressive stuff
  8. I bought the 261 in the end. Now I've got through a few tanks it's really come into it's own. A nice saw indeed and a couple of people who have used it on site and to chog down have given a good review as well.
  9. You guys really felt the need to post those sarcy comments? Didn't use a search function as I wanted relevant up-to-date opinions. Keyboard warriors; you didn't post a reply when the thread went up, but now your piping up when a couple of other lads are having a genuine conversation about some echo saws. The threads old news. So are your views. NFG - "Ching chong chinaman"???? That's no better than using the "N" word. Wind your neck in
  10. I have both.. Yale and Marlow. Try them both if we go for a reccy climb
  11. Think yale is the better of the ropes... XTC, hedera, blue tongue etc...
  12. This is my regular setup that I used that Saturday when you worked with me... Harness - petzl sequoia Rope - yale hedera Friction device - zigzag Lanyard - home made- Marlow 5 metre rope, rock exotica rope grab, stein 3 way snap and a rock exotica d karabiner Start with a simple Prussik before buying a zigzag. I just use a foot ascender - petzl pantin - for any long ascents... But for SRT it's all different.. You need things like base anchors, rope wrench, bulldog bones etc.. I don't know much about SRT but I'm not sure if it's a good starting point. Could be wrong though. Anyway, get a harness and we'll go for a climb. I've got loads of spares you can use and try different things
  13. Oh dear! Today we had a large job on so there were 5 of us to make sure it got done.. The customer came home towards the end of the day and let's just say she was a sandwich short of a picnic... She danced her way over to us and offered us drinks. Sceptically we obliged and asked for tea; apart from Keith. He asked for coffee. What did he get? Bloody gravy!! Ahahaha. Quality.
  14. Fr jones
  15. If you got 2 other guys working with you, you could call yourself "Tree blind mice" haha
  16. That's what I was told too Steve.. The guys at fr jones didn't recommend putting a hedgecutter head on a pole saw. There must be something true about it or surely stihl would have marketed a hedgecutter with that sort of reach?
  17. Actually... Does the second have pink flowers or are they berrys?
  18. Second is Eleagnus .. And I think Kev is right with citissus battandieri - broom
  19. Ok cheers guys.. I do have a spare but it's 13mm and I like my 11.7 with zigzag! I'll see if the wife will let me bring it in the house from the garage!!
  20. Hi, just wondering if you can stick a climbing rope in a tumble dryer? Had it coiled and hanging but it's still wet!
  21. I take my hat off to you sir
  22. Could be pawlonia tomentosa... Don't think catalpa as that's flowering at the mo and I don't think the beans start like the berrys in picture
  23. I think it came down to personal preference in the end.. I know stihls and am comfortable around stihls. Never had a husky, was told I had to use their xp oil when I've already got a tub load of green stihl.. Wasn't too keen on the 550 in my hand. Also, I'm not a pro user so it won't be getting beasted all day every day, so I'm sure it'll do just fine.
  24. Mick in jones told me that problems been resolved?? Mick said he discovered the fault, relayed the problem to stihl and they sorted it.
  25. I like my stihl hi flex.. Not had any others to compare to, but no complaints.
