Had agreed to dismantle a sycamore over a friend's gas tank yesterday, spiked up the tree setting up for the rigging to be shouted down for bacon sandwiches, the sap has run from the tree forming little icicles,,,,,,, Wind was strong and bloody freezing 🥶

Evening, I've got a husqvarna 560xpg with 320ish hours on it, always run on synthetic two stroke oil and well looked after. I was contemplating selling it on and replacing it as I have got the usual end of tax year quandary??? Do I Sell it off and put a new one through the books, or keep it for the next financial year (bearing in mind this Corona shiote that's ongoing). What hours do people see on these saws before they die?? Cheers

I've always used Husky saws, started out on a 254 and now run all of the autotuned saws, in fairness I prefer the autotuned machines - no fiddling about tuning the saw trying to get the best from it whilst risking running them too lean. Another massive plus for me with the husky saws is the two year warranty support, lad I worked with was mega rough with his kit, revved the tits off his saw all the time - blew a saw up at about 18months old - he got a replacement saw.

Evening, I work part time on a 3000 acre Estate of mixed woodland and farm land. The current winch is not fit for purpose, we're needing to replace it, As with everything we need to be mindful of the cost. Currently looking at the krpan 6.5 ton, trying to decide between hydraulic or manual, We deal with everything from thinning young stands right up to felling mature hardwoods. Our tractor produces 82hp. Cheers in advance

The article on the Fisa website deals with the use of wedges whilst felling ash suffering from dieback - the advice is not to use wedges to knock the tree over. The vibration caused by hit the wedge risks causing dead branches etc to snap off and fall onto the chainsaw operator. The advise winch assisted felling or use of a hydraulic/ratchet type wedge -
Always used husky saws, with these two being so closely matched think it's the brilliant 2 year warranty backup that you get with husqvarna that means I will be opting for the 572 on it's release

Pump petrol and husky xp 2 stroke oil, run all of my saws/strimmers etc on it without issue.

Husky 254, bought as reconditioned saw from a dealer in about 1991. Still got it, rough as an old boot now, however reluctant to sell it for some weird reason

Have you considered continuous cover forestry, I work on an estate that does this, it's massive on the continent however not so common in the UK,

I now know why.... The lad who uses the saw most of the time doesn't know how to sharpen the chain properly - he nearly took the rakers completely off. Evening, bought a roll of oregon 3/8 chain and the appropriate tools for splitting and the rivet spinner for joining it, however I've had several snap across the tie strap of the joining link - any thoughts on why this is happening - anyone know a way to stop this happening, Cheers Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app

Yes, as comfortable as normal ear defenders, only used with a chainsaw so not sure how good they are if used with a chipper etc, they're simple to use with gloves on, one button for the 4 volume levels, hold it in to switch on/off, two other buttons to cycle through fm to find channels Sent from my D6603 using Arbtalk mobile app

Evening, Interested in opinions, I've been doing selective felling/thinning today in Northumberland, not in direct sunlight and during the course of the day I drank nearly 5 litres of water, I only needed a pee once, the other lads on site were gobsmacked at the amount I'd drank, clearly I sweated loads, is this normal. Cheers

Spent some time earlier this year brashing rough outside trees for the harvester and felling the oversize stuff, I've another job which pays the bills, I'd love to go back to cutting full time however, 40ish, and now financial commitments that I didn't have last time round............ It's prohibitive, the guy I was contracting for paid a day rate and paid quickly. Load of my mates are on machines and are fairly worried due to the downturn. There's massive amounts of timber standing roadside in Northern England. The fault doesn't lie with other contractors it's the strong pound and subsequently cheap imports that've crippled the Forestry in the UK

Bought a second hand cheap machine (£30) it is plumbed into the garage and gets used for dog beds and forestry kit, years ago I got the blame for wrecking some of her work blouses due to resin left in the drum and have never used the good machine since......
