  2. Hi does anyone know the rules on road registering big mowers. I've just bought an 84 inch cut mower and I'm wondering about road registering as I have 3 areas I cut within about 1 mile of each other and I'm thinking of just driving between the sites instead of loading up in between. Many thanks Richard
  3. Hi all just thought I'd let everyone know that halfords have 1/2 price socket sets again. I have just got the 170 piece one for £125 and there is is smaller set for £80 both look good for the money
  4. I have 2 play areas I look after and they work out at around £25 per hour over the full 12 months ie less money and more time in growing season but money for next to nothing in winter. Good contracts to have though as they pay all year round
  5. I would avoid the 4 mix if I were you! Heard good things about Honda stuff but a bit over budget (about £350 for the engine 35cc one and another £225 I think for long reach trimmer) I've borrowed one of these and it's brilliant if a little heavy and the engines are bullet proof. I will be getting one in time for my hedge cutting in the autumn, I don't do many in the rest of the year and no tall ones anyway. If I get asked to do one before I will buy it sooner though!
  6. Most phones (probably all) allow 999 etc from locked phone.
  7. You don't need your own network but you do need someone's network to call 999
  8. 3 kg on right left looks better value to me
  9. I only use single sided cutters as I don't see how you can cut yourself with them without be really very stupid.
  10. Not worth trying imo as either you do you're back in trying to lift it or worse you lose control of it and it lands on you. 2 people maybe lift it if there are decent hand holds. Getting it out again will be as bad if not worse I think. I've got a howard 350 rotavator and I have no idea how much it weighs but it's probably less than 125 kg and I can't push it up ramp into trailer have to drive it up. Maybe I'm just getting old though!!
  11. What thickness did you get I've just looked at them and they seem to be a good price. What's the quality like? Thanks in advance
  12. I know what you mean about the bin men if they see you I had one moan at me once he did take it though. I don't know why they care tbh I'm sure they don't get paid enough to be bin police!
  13. I do use the bins until they are full because how do the bin men know?
  14. I use mine very rarely but I will be getting some class 2 trousers after reading this my class one are getting old now and probably need replacing. A timely reminder glad you're ok. It just reminds me that it takes only a second of not paying full attention and you could. Conceivably be dead!!
  15. I got the waste license as its better to be safe and all that, I phoned council when I first started and they told me that I should be taking all a risings from people's property and not using green bins as if I have created the waste its commercial and not allowed in the green bin as that is for domestic waste only!
  16. I think property depends on how much you buy for in the first place. If it a £30k house then rent is going to be cheap and the tenants may not be brilliant, if you have a place to rent for £1000 per month then you should in theory have less problems( doctors on 2 year contracts etc) but it's always going to be a risk. If you don't want risk risk leave it in a current/savings account losing money(inflation wise) Or better still buy something nice with it!!
  17. How does it last all day? Is that just spot spraying? How good is it over bigger areas? Sounds too good to be true, I don't doubt you its just surprising.
  18. Charge by the job, you will struggle to get away from it if you do charge by the houe and as others have said there is no incentive to work hard. Never use their kit bad move!
  19. The last thing I would want as a homeowner is someone knocking on my door asking to take down a tree. It would make me think of "traveling" people just doing a bit of tarmacing in the area who happen to have a bit left!" Put a card through yes but knocking on the door is a big no no for me. If people want work doing they are capable of looking online /yellow pages etc and getting quotes.(and the people who aren't are probably vulnerable and should be left alone imo. A bit rogue trader ish if you ask me.
  20. I don't see how anyone can justify doing it when it's frozen. There is always other work that could be done in a garden. And if there isn't any in that garden there should be somewhere else. And you are not helping yourself by doing it as it will ruin it and probably lose you the customer. You need to be charging enough through spring summer and autumn to set enough aside for the winter. Just my opinion.
  21. Thanks for that you learn something new everyday as they say
