  1. Hi I'm looking for a scrap billy goat or similar to take some parts off to make a small vacuum trailer for next autumns leaves if anyone has one or sees one I would be interested many thanks Richard
  2. Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm trying to post a thread and can't find the button for It help please many thanks Richard
  3. No problems as your right really. The op picking and choosing is also right. the biggest thing at the end of the day what any of us say the op has to do it himself as no one can do it for him. And even if they tried he would not like it as it would not be his own then anyway.
  4. That makes sense I was really thinking about cheap start up for the op. I got rid of my car and trailer after about 6 months and risked a new l200(could not really afford it at the time) I'm glad I did as looking smart (vehicle kit appearance etc) is one way of stopping people being wary of you. (Retired people especially I my experience) So that was probably a bit of bad advice now kevinjohnsonmbe mentions it. So there's me still making stupid mistakes, maybe best to just ignore me!!!
  5. Are vans expensive to insure (business use) when you're young and just passed? Never had a van
  6. Cheap estate car, drop seats down for work, lift them up for family. Make SURE you are insured for business use because if you have a bump with tools mower etc in car you will have insurance (sdp) voided and have big problems.(even if someone else hits you)
  7. I would but it also costs more.I presume that's why a 2wd pickup was mentioned.they are cheaper to run and insure than 4 wheel drive. Life is not easy when you first start! I had a Mazda demio (11 years old) and a 4by3 trailer that was about 35years old (camping trailer from when I was a baby), a borrowed champion mower a b and q strimmer and a homelite blower as well as a few hand-tools. Life was tough to start with work hard and you will make it.
  8. That's spot on advice, I'm not trying to put you down just offering some advice on business not arb work. Don't get defensive or people who know what works and what doesn't will just say nothing and it would be a shame as loads of people on here are willing to help!
  9. When you do you pr business plan I think you need to get somone to check grammar and spellings etc. If business plan looks poor you will get no money.
  10. Ok that's good but it still doesn't buy kit etc. I do gardening and to get to where I am now its cost me over£30000 Truck/trailer mowers etc etc etc the list goes on and on insurance etc etc And it's taken five years to get here. I did not take any money out for a year The only reason I managed was 1 I had some money in the bank and 2 my wife has a good job. And yes you could start for a lot less than that (and I did) but for tree work you've got to be looking at what £14000-15000 for truck chipper saws Tickets insurance and all the rest of it. You need money to start a business because business eat money to start with. Good luck with it
  11. I'm going to say first that I know very little about arb work, but I do know that you need to be free of debt before you start a business. Because you are going to have to either have money in the bank to fund purchases/marketing etc etc etc or go into debt to buy them. And you will not start making money overnight it's takes a long time. So how do you pay the bills to start with? That may sound harsh but debts being "under control now" does not sound a healthy starting point to me. Just my thoughts though and I do hope you manage it just a voice of reason
  12. I know some of the Clarke stuff have honda engines on them. Not sure about that one though
  13. I'm not a tree surgeon but I think even I could have done better than that with a ladder and a bow saw
  14. I would probably go with slightly higher cc as the smaller one will be working harder to produce the extra horsepower.(ready to be shot down by people who know better:thumbup:) QUOTE=Tom Hall;1231662]I have been asking various people who i consider to be my superiors this question and i am struggling to get a sensible answer! I am not a mechanically minded person so this sort of thing is out of my comfort zone. when buying a saw and you have 2 competitors so closely matched one has a slightly higher cc but the other has slightly higher horsepower, what are the advantages to both. I suppose what i am asking is what is hp and what is cc at the end of the day, please don't laugh at my ignorance
  15. Slow ground speed you could get it turned up its not hurt any of my Hondas! Seems a bit steep at £400 to me but if it's only done smallish garden for somone then maybe ok. You could get a new one for £670 Honda Mower HRX 426 QX Honda HRX426QX Honda HRX426 QX Not sure I would like the plastic deck on it though but then I'm not very kind to my mowers! (Do service them and the like just seem to get bashed about on trailer or in back of pickup)
  16. Mine is nfu l200 11 plate £850 me and mrs business use protected no claims. Changed from sdp to business when I started on my own 2 years ago went from £450 to £800 in an instant gone up to £850 in 2 years will shop around in June
  17. Stop feeling like a weak person your not! My wife suffers and the hardest thing for her is talking as she feels weak too! Try to keep talking about it. Try not to bottle it up I know that's hard.all the best Richard
  18. I was trying to say that it's not just about about the amount of time said form takes to fill in. It's about more than that!
  19. [maybe the council know this company's standard of work and that helped to push the order through? If so it more than pays for itself QUOTE=treestuff;1228664]The firm that filled in the form did it at my house when he came to do the quote, filled it in with me and it took us about 5 minutes to do. How can anyone justify 5minutes worth of work to be £60-£100, do you all charge for giving written quotes as there must of been the same amount of work as giving a written quote and posting it out to me?
  20. Fill th orms out yourself and wait and see
  21. I think you should use the people who did the application or at least pay than M for their time and expenses ! I don't do tree work but I would be very annoyed if someone did that to me!!
  22. I too had this done I was told 3 months and I did tr to wait but only managed about 9 weeks. Went back too soon I think and am now going through the process of maybe having another op. Just had mri 3 weeks ago and got to see the consultant in 2 weeks to hear his decision on what to do now. Don't rush back!!
  23. I say go with a honda izy as they just go and go and go. But then I would buy any mower with a honda engine if the rest of it was well made as well. As above honda originals get expensive as you go up the range, and IF you splashed out for the Hondas (including the clones kaaz, cobra etc) with self drive be prepared for the drive gearbox to break as they ar c*** and expensive to fix!! I think the pro 4 wheel 21inch is hydrostatic and does not suffer the same problems with said gearboxes I think it's just the roller models. Hopefully that's helps a bit. Cheers Richard
