  1. I have a Morbark M8D petrol model. Chips fronds without any bother, have chipped Washingtonias and Pheonix. It also has a feed roller speed control so you can turn it as slow as you want. I find the mulch very stringy and personally wouldn't spread it on my garden.. unless I had nothing else maybe! I'm yet to try whole Trachycarpus (including trunks) but will give it a go. 2. If it's a genuine fault then Echo seem good with their warranty. Talk to your dealer. What part of NZ are you from? Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. I have the 525 blower and combination unit. Great engines, only problem is my Husqvarna combi can spills fuel every time I fill up either, but it works fine on all other tools?! 😒 Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Unfortunately doing tree work only 50% working on trees. The rest is being a councillor! Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app

  6. Some very good points raised by this thread. For sure customer service is important, I chose Husqvarna over stihl based almost purely on the service from the local dealers. There isn't much dealer support in NZ as far as chippers are concerned, I bought a locally made one with great dealer service. It didn't however change the fact that it was poorly fabricated and the design was flawed in places (I realise there is no perfect design). This time I have gone for the heavier built American option so time will tell how that works out. The morbark dealer in NZ just started selling forst, it will be an interesting journey for them as parts availability will be an issue, especially at the beginning. We are a long way from anywhere so it is always a problem. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. That's still not an excuse for machinery becoming worthless/unreliable after (or before) 3 years. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Yes it's pretty long! Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. That's a fair enough comment. Not everyone wants to or can afford to buy a new chipper every 3 years and companies should really make equipment that lasts. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. I don't think the M8D would be viewed as being made within weight constraints.. There aren't many of them around here but the second hand one which have popped up have all been 3000 hours plus, which I personally think is a fair whack for a small chipper Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. It's the hot start that bothers me. If I squeeze the trigger a touch it really helps and if the chain brake is off then it's away, not safe though. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Been using the saw lots and loving it but need to get it so it's easier to start! Anyone had any joy? Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Not necessary to shut it down but it make sense to. The network arborist recently told me it can save appliances in the even of damaging/pulling wires out. Not to mention your safety. It's a bit more faffing about admittedly but don't cut corners Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. I ended up opting for the 35hp Kohler petrol guzzler. The Kubota engine adding a lot of weight and an extra $10,000 (£5k). It ended up being too closely priced to a new 12inch machine so didn't make sense economically, although I do feel it's a waste sometimes having the capacity but not quite enough ponies. 15. Doesn't seem much lighter than the M8D which looks like much more machine Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. I recently bought an M8D (in NZ). Fantastic fabrication, a fair bit heavier than my last 6 inch chipper but have no doubt it will stand the test of time. Seemed to be robust in construction even compared to the closest sized Bandit. Didn't feed quite so well however. What engine options do you offer in the UK? Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. The last option which has not been explored yet is that he is pulling everyone's plonkers Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. Get them temporarily disconnected (fuses pulled) or if they are in the way I'm sure you can get them dropped but usually costs more. If in doubt ring the supplier, I usually find they are quite helpful becuase they don't like accidents or outages.
  19. You might want to clear up if you want a dedicated telescopic machine or a combination (strimmer, hedge trimmer etc). The Echo telescopic saw is good as it will also take a hedge trimmer, whilst most of them will, they will eventually break the drive shaft, where as the Echo trimmer has a clutch in the head if I remember correctly. The Echo machine is meant to be good but a fair bit heavier, If you plan on doing any amount of hedge trimming I'd choose a combination unit and get an additional extention. I bought the Husqvarna 525 powerhead and hedge trimmer/chainsaw. Seems quite good although a little bendy with the extention pole in aswell..
  20. Probably not cost effective to mill and treat poplar but it can be nice for indoor use. Probably just firewood in this situation! Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Oh well if budget isn't an issue then a 390 or 395 will be more versatile in the sense that you can run larger bars, but obviously are heavier and much more thirsty. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. Get the 576 now and borrow a larger saw when you need it until you can afford your own.. You can do alot with a 24inch bar Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. I didn't... But thanks, I do now.
  24. Does pull over with the chain brake off? Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. Yeah might have a check, I did give the saw a hard time when the saw got stuck in a log up a tree, the tech at the shop put it back together but might be something damaged. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
