  1. Very true... a lot..
  2. We all have our own tastes , but if its just the light colour, you want high grade Canadian rock maples good , has a great lustre as well! If you really want painted doors, ppppwwwaahhh , I wouldn't bother getting it made by a cabinet maker. The ones I used to work for would charge a few grand for a wardrobe...I learnt a a little bit from David Savage, Hes does some fine pieces, He would do you a good one, but would probably want £30.000...minimum. Perhaps you know much cheaper cabinet makers? Either way good luck!
  3. True as I don't know you it might be my projection! Good answer! Of course if I haven't worked out mmy own stuff in life it could be transference as well! You say "I consider no one above me, I would not bow or scrap to any man, I feel equal to all. I'm very happy with my lot, I'm grateful I'm free to plough my own furrow, beholden to no one." If you truly do that at all times I salute you! I live the same way, but do find some others and the system push the farrow of course occasionally.
  4. If you employ a proper cabinet maker, stipulate the timber you like, don't get it painted... That's just for crap timber , cheaply made or vintage stuff {still crap.}that's been painted by an " I saw you coming" shop, designer craftsman or other conmen. [ame= ] [/ame]
  5. Accepted systems! Gawd you sound like my Mum! So you accept your lowly place in society & embrace your number then? Many stopped doing that when they came back from WW1. But hopefully you realise forelock tugging is optional nowadays? "yes sir,yes sir, I be good sir,I be no problem sir"
  6. Its politicians who are the main problem.. But I agree judiciary & police don't do much better. But Im told many prisons are still on 23 hour bang up, in a 7x8 box with a radio if you've bought one yourself & can afford the batteries from your £5 a week allowance. Not everyone goes to the holiday camps.... Of course 23% also grew up in care & will be in & out of jail all there lives, because institution is there only hope... However hard it is for them its all they know.
  7. Looks that way! I totally agree , for years I regarded police as the people to protect my family & friends if I wasn't there to help....I knew even 30 years ago they weren't very good at it most of the time... Interesting to see them admitting it though...
  8. Sadly it seems most crime will be not even dealt with in future in rural areas. A Cornish police statement, about the impending crises. .... Cuts mean you might see us only on Twitter, says Wadebridge's senior police officer | Cornish Guardian Especially with the next combined Tory, ukip & lib. government.

  10. None at all, but recall reading in Victorian times the plain wood was was good for milk buckets. {so presumably non tainting.. } so if burry perhaps good for utility kitchen items?

    Nice oak

it could be elsewhere but Location: Formby,Merseyside Might help narrow it down..
  12. They will have to have a big garden!
  13. Did you get it? if so seal the end grain & keep it shade before milling. it looks a top piece for furniture making to me.
  14. That cant be right, when central heating house dry {Is that 10% or something less?} it burns really really well. it does smell though.....
  15. Not much use to modern industry & methods. Historically cut or cleaved very thin on the true quarter & used for panels {Wainscote} in English country houses. Very wide rays... Great firewood when dry as long as you waiste off most of the sapwood. {Just done it obce for are own firewood of a standing dead one that was no longer standing.} So no good for fast turnaround commercial Id guess. Smells really strong & Ive still got bit of steel in my leg from splitting a knotty piece with steel wedge & cheap sledgehammer.
  16. Breaks down quickly mixed with piss & crap & makes great compost. Good under animals as long as non poisonous species.
  17. I posted this thread 3 days ago.... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/86630-attempted-arbtalk-account-hijack.html Lots of it about it seems...
  18. Not sure what I would call it, probably a burr or burl, but not quite like what one usually looks like, it will be fast growth, relatively plain but swirly timber in it due to absence of epircormic eyes, I would guess I guess you could get a small table top out of it?
  19. Yes all the way! yes!
  20. Where was it advertised & whats the name & address of seller would be good...

    Dead oak

    Hi there! Yep, its all so valuable till you do the costs...But so much of its just firewood really. {Or turning/craft stuff if lucky & know good buyers.}
  22. Yep costs & logistics are always the problem...
