    Jokes???

  2. I’ve had my t540 5 years now... a hard act to follow.
  3. As far as I know, in order for your splices to be able to carry a ‘certificate’, you would have to train and get ‘approved’ with the rope manufacturer in order to put their stamp (with CE mark for LOLER) on any aftermarket splices. I’m not quite sure what will happen to the CE mark requirement regarding the LOLER-ing of climbing rope after we leave the EU. Maybe the Industry could persuade the Arb Association to spearhead a move to introduce a nationally recognised qualification for after-market splicing. (We could all buy our mandatory second climbing ropes straight off the reel and get them spliced then)
  4. Hey Don, did you get to compare the weight of them side by side?
  5. Nice one Reg. breathtaking stuff, glad it went well. Hope you keep finding find good material for future clips.

    Spear Cut

I’ve never used a spear cut on a large hung up tree, but have used the ‘vertical snap cut’ demonstrated by Daniel which worked well. Definitely need your wits about you when using it. I have found the spear cut a handy ‘go to’ when thinning a crown in a tight spot.

  9. Thanks Paul. Appreciate the reply. [emoji106]
  10. Hi Paul, Hope you’re well. So if I understand it correctly... 1. The ICOP draft for consultation was for people who run teams and plan work to have a say. 2. The new Technical Guide will be drafted initially for consultation (from climbers themselves). (?) The bottom line being that if a climber takes a fall for whatever reason while only using a ‘one rope’ system. He’ll be uninsured and his employer will be liable and most likely prosecuted. (!) Thanks
  11. What I don’t understand here is why insert ‘Mercedes’ into the headline? Is it because a Mercedes drivers life is more valuable, perhaps? Or maybe because KIA driver just doesn’t have the same ring to it..
  12. I was anticipating this..... s’why I said ‘relative safety.’ Flying a helicopter over a combat zone in Afghanistan must rank in a different league than wading through bitten off Glaswegians’ ears.
  13. Says the Scots comic from behind the relative safety of a microphone in a Glasgow nightclub.
  14. And that’s the danger.... I can almost hear them saying.. “they won’t like it at first, but they’ll get used to it eventually” It’s going to have a huge impact on firms who are trying to be compliant. The only ‘winners’ in this will be the firms that carry on under the radar.

    Review

    At £340 a pop I don’t think there will be many. !
  16. Where’s that from? Do you have a link?
  17. Done a couple of two rope climbs now. Not being able to turn round in your harness is a very awkward and unnatural way of trying to move around the canopy. The stress and frustration this causes a climber is not to be underestimated. The inclination to cut and take bigger pieces due to good ergonomic movement being hampered is going to cost someone at some point. Good anchor point selection, well maintained equipment and good work positioning when cutting should be sufficient. Two rope working definitely brings additional hazards into the working environment.
  18. Honda Lawnflite has been good for us.
  19. Rotten Poplar pollard . Two rope working and despite the considerable handicap I was glad of two points of attachment at certain parts of the job. At other points of the job it was a tangled nightmare.
  20. On a recent trip to S Africa we had a ‘loan’ of these two Boerboels..

Or..,The Bailiffs favourite boy band... Take That.
  22. This came down right outside my front door 2 years ago. Glad it didn’t go the other way. 197 years old..
  23. If only he knew!
  24. I’m 54 and climb 4-5 times a month. Bit of arthritis in my right wrist and a partial dislocation in my left shoulder. Still enjoy it and find that I get round the canopy using less energy more efficiently. Pain is a great teacher. I’m very fortunate to have other roles within my job so I don’t have to completely wreck what’s left of my body.
