  1. Thanks guys.
  2. I remember being told on my LOLER course that steel caribiners didn't have a use by date providing the gates still functioned. With regards the captive eyes, how were you thinking of attaching the slings? If it was by way of a simple girth hitch then surely a simple 3 way would save money?
  3. Well we just bought a load yesterday so I'll PM you in 10 years :)
  4. It does. Stronger than you would think. Like I said I zipped some pretty big chunks off it as well.
  5. The instructor on our CS 41 has done a great deal of research with kit, ropes, etc so you could be pretty confident that he wouldn't be shelling that sort of cash out on kit that wasn't going to last.
  6. This one was about 60-70 ft. I was glad to get down after seeing this.
  7. I heard someone say that it is possible to sharpen silky saw blades. Is this true? Has anyone done it and how? Can gomtaro and natananko blades be done? Thanks in advance.... Would save us a fortune if you can.
  8. Had a similar experience earlier this year. Dismantled one with a zipline and found it to be very rotten inside and soaking wet at the base. Thankfully I was anchored into a neighbouring tree. I zipped some fairly big bits off it. My conclusion was that even with the rot they are stronger than I would have thought. If I had seen the rot before I tackled it I wouldn't have wanted to climb it let alone zipline off it!
  9. My in laws just bought me Gerry Beranek's Fundamentals of General Tree Work for my Birthday. Interesting to look at the connector section photos in his book.
  10. That's right. Steel is where we should be for rigging. I have to admit to using old PPE krabs for light rigging work.
  11. Sorry Grandpa... My humblest apologies. Incidentally/co-incidentally my colleague just rang me and told me he is purchasing a long length of prussic cord and 10 dmm revolver krabs so that we have a designated speed line kit. We will make the loops long enough to be slung over one shoulder whilst climbing so that they don't tangle up on the harness. We will post some pics of them in action next week.
  12. A souped up 346xp ??
  13. I'm probably teaching granny to suck eggs here methinks...
  14. Depends why they have been relegated. If a krab has been relegated from PPE to rigging it still needs to function correctly. Here's a link to the current rigging research HSE document. (If it works) https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=rigging+research&gws_rd=cr,ssl&ei=YLLNVbazOaa27galvqSIBA
  15. When we did our CS 31 rigging course earlier this year the instructor had made up a speed line kit, the slings were large prussic loops tied with double fishermans knots and the Krabs were DMM revolvers. It was the Rolls Royce of speed line kits for sure.
  16. Finally, you've spilt the beans!! Mines still in one piece and I love it, but should it ever break, are these parts available for all 540's ??
  17. I thought toffee would be quite tough. After all they make the transit duratorque out of it...
  18. I thought it was Kleenex and spit but hard cheese makes much more sense
  19. Plastic insert in the cover has got very hot but still functions. Perhaps a muffler mod is the way forward.
  20. Band has snapped right on the end so no wonder it couldn't be noticed
  21. Things going well mate, apart from the saw. It's only a brake problem so not the end of the world. Thanks mate.
  22. Hi Eddy, Spark mesh was taken out at purchase over 12 months ago. I used it on a really hot day and worked it really hard not long ago. It was hard to pull after that so I stripped it not long after to clean it and not realising what would happen I started it without the cover and brake on and the clutch flew off Been waiting ages for new parts so left it at local dealers. Just got it back, started beautifully but the brake isn't engaging. The plastic cover is quite melted. The brake mechanism seems to be Working ok. Thanks
  23. We're laughing all the way to Lidl (well he's not but I am). What colour are the trousers? Mrs Ti.
  24. Don't know if anyone has come across this but the plastic casing that contains the chain brake mechanism has melted and the brake band doesn't engage. Just had a new clutch fitted so I'm surprised that the dealer sent it back like this. They can't have noticed it. Does anyone have any ideas why it might have happened? I don't want to just replace the parts only for it to happen again. Thanks in advance Timon
  25. We're doing some yew in the next few days. I'll PM you. You'll have to get it milled yourself though.
